A while ago, my mate Dawn had this wee chap as a share: His name's Hector. He's a 15hh Welsh Sec D (possibly cross), and he was about 4 years old. Dawn was helping his owner through a few issues at the time - including his rearing and bolting while out hacking! Anyway, she let me have a go of him a couple of times! I'm hoping to have a wee shot of him again, soon, as Dawn has managed to get him on loan again, and is bringing him over to the yard where she keeps her two!

Ooh I am jealous as I just adore Welsh cobs. He could be a cross as his legs look to be a little on the chunky side. Looks like he's strong!

He's a funny wee chap, too. Dawn trained him to do various tricks before, and it's quite entertaining to watch him in action!

He must feel small after the big ones you sum times ride.

He feels small in terms of height, but he's quite a chunky monkey, so feels quite solid. Certainly more solid than the horse I was sharing at the time!

Daren thought you might like to see a pic of Chime who made me fall in love with welsh Ds many years ago. Not only was she a stunner but had a lovely nature, very friendly. She was in foal here hence the tum!

I love Chime - i've still got her virtual namesake Claire! ;D
To me Welsh cobs will always mean the Nebo ones - (like Black Magic) - not my type of horse, but wow - what a presence they had, and what energy!
Do have to mention though, that the ones I rode were pretty much all mad as a bucket of frogs! ;D
Mind you, I do have to add in the interests of honesty, that my Section B is also somewhat off the planet!

maybe got some vanner (if were being posh or gypsy if not) cob in there...that could account for the extra hairiness?
He is very similiar in build/stature to the vanners (and a few other mutts) bred across road from my mums

I'm obviously not posh (if anyone was in doubt haha) cos I call them gypsy cobs! Yes you could be right haffy. Hard to tell with part breds, Domino was half gypsy cob and had fairly slim legs with feather. Whatever he is, Hector's lovely

When I first met Hector, I had a share of a 16.2hh Irish Draft x Shire mare who was our newest RDA horse. She seemed nice and chilled, and we were told at the time she was a safe ride.
Yet I hated riding her. I always felt that she was never quite "switched on" - you could be riding her a short hack, and she would never pay attention to what was happening around her. She'd jump three feet sideways at a speck of dust on the ground! I had several scary moments out with her, and in the school, and I just never felt right with her. In the end, I just relinquished my share of her (not to mention gave up with the RDA, as I hated the politics of the place!)
Yet I had a shot of Hector, who was known to rear and bolt and do all sorts of untoward things under saddle, and REALLY enjoyed riding him. He was responsive, smooth, and felt a lot easier to control than Sally, with whom who I had many problems and never felt really comfortable. Hell, I rode him in the outdoor school, AT NIGHT, in the WIND and RAIN, and he never put a foot wrong - and I would NEVER have tried that with Sally!

Yeah its funny how you click with some horses and not others. I must admit I seem strangely drawn to the slightly loony ones, not sure why! ;D One thing about Welsh cobs is they know their own mind and are confident!
Hope you manage to ride Hector again soon.
