So you managed to get a test done kunuma. I can't see anyone beating that! At Tiscali's worst it was about 400kb at times but that was with a normal telephone line so was pretty awful. Its now about 7 meg which is about the fastest you can get in my countryside town.

Didn't have a clue how you knew this but googled it (as you do) and after running a test thingy jiggy apparantly mine is 12.4. I assume thats fairly good in comparision to yours anyhow? It was the highest number on the list for my area so I assume bigger is better.

12.4 meg is pretty good haffy. Mine's not superfast but apparently the best our antiquated network can handle. Kunuma's is absolutely dire.

I need some compensation for the fact we had to buy a bloody stupidly expensive high gain or something ariel to be able to get any freeview signal!

Here I am getting all excited about the fact that of a few minutes ago, I am now at 3 Meg! It took several HOURS on the phone to BT across the other side of the world, numerous modems, everything in sight replaced and an engineer who moved in for the day - but (fingers seriously crossed) here I am!

At parents house now - long story - and speed is even slower than yours kunuma. Was trying to watch the show jumping on iplayer and had to give up. Talk talk has gone seriously down hill since the last time I was here.

Talk talk has gone seriously down hill since the last time I was here. Talk Talk is rubbish. My parents connection got taken over by Talk Talk (who also own plusnet), and we have had problems with erratic connection. They tried to blame it on the router - the router is a professional use one which cost £150 (and can send faxes plus boost mobile phone signals in addition to providing the internet) so I hardly think that is a the problem.

They always blame it on the router! The wireless isnt too hot on talk talk i got an off peak speed of only 2 meg when i did a test - but my dads pc which is connected by an ethernet cable is even worse. It takes about 5 or 6 goes just to get it to connect. Its like those really old dial up connections which you had to keep re-dialling - anyone remember those?

Dunno what my speed is, but surely broadband isn't supposed to cut out when the landline goes?? At least, that's what I thought, but ours does....!

If you get your broadband DSL which is what most people do then yeah Daren it is still linked to the telephone system, so can go down with it. Even if you've got wireless on your laptop the signal is still coming in via your telephone line as the router is connected to it. (so technically not wireless your comp is but not your router!)
Only if your laptop connects to the internet via a dongle then the phone line has nowt to do with it.

Yes kunuma dial up still exists. I dont think any of the big companies do it but there are some 'pay as you go' type websites that do it where you pay for the phone calls.
Alternatively if you want a dial up equivalent you just move into a house with a DACS telephone line like you did kunuma ;D ;D ;D
