Thanks sarah, I might give it a go if I can manage to avoid the dissection bit. I'm not that squeamish and will happily watch them cutting up people on all these crime shows but when it comes to animals thats a different matter!

Oh dear I saw the still pic of horse lying on slab before I even got to start the film and even that was too much for me! Pity cos I am sure it would have been very interesting. Maybe I will just listen to the soundtrack.

It was interesting. I'm not squeamish - but it did turn my stomach a bit. I think it was because you kept seeing the horse's head and eye. Just the sound track is probably the way to go.

Reading the blurb about how the racehorse has super size organs (no tittering you lot!) reminded me of something I'd read about how top race horses such as Eclispe, Phar Lap and Secretariat had huge hearts that were twice the weight of normal horses hearts. It seems they really were built for speed and stamina!

If you want to snigger at super size organs, there are some graphic scenes in the covering sheds of Coolmore in the programme. I did work experience on a stud farm when I was 15, so have seen it all, but it might have been a shock to some viewers!
The shot of the horse on the slab was quite sad, as he would have had a pet name and a stable lad who knew him well- a bit different to the other autopsies in the series. But it was really interesting and impressive to see the biomechanics of such power and speed laid bare. There's not enough science on the telly in my opinion.

Plucked up the courage to listen to the soundtrack and watch a few non-dissection bits. Glad I did as it was fascinating. I've always thought tbs were amazing and this shows you just how amazing. I did watch the bit where they took the heart out and I was astounded at how huge it was. Its never really occured to me before just how huge they are, when I read about Phar laps heart weighing over 6kg it didnt really sink in, now it has occured to me that its very nearly a stone!!! Also the amount of air they breathe in was amazing, in one race as much as we breathe in a full day!

It was fascinating, I found the worst bit when they inflated the lungs & it was like it was breathing again. I wish they had said something about the horse & where it had come from & what injury had ended it's life.

It I wish they had said something about the horse & where it had come from & what injury had ended it's life. I think they said it was a 4 year old race horse who had a chronic lameness problem so was put down - which I thought was sad as it just shows how imperfection is punished in the horse world
