I think we have almost exhausted the top 10s now but one I think should be included is the best adult characters in pony stories. I know a lot of the books almost miss out adults entirely but there are some great ones in others. Major Holbrooke must be my all time favourite, not only is he a great instructor, he comes out with some very funny lines, especially when bantering with his wife or Henry and I always giggle when he is giving Gay marriage advice in Pony Club Camp. And he is also a good moral guide, who can forget his treatment of John when he comes across him beating Jet, or the lecture he gives to Richard at the end of Six Ponies (original version). Pretty strong stuff. A great well rounded character.
Please add your suggestions and I'll do a poll if we have enough. They don't have to be characters you think are admirable they could just be funny and eccentric like Miss Tuke in the Jinny books.

Mrs Thornedyke, The Hermit in Hermit's Horse, Mrs Rooke for her all round horridness, Guy in the Bracken series, the Dad in All Change. I will think of some more, these are off the top of my head.

I just can't believe this board has deleted part of a name because it means something else!

The mother in Barbara Holland's The Pony Problem....will have to check to find out her name. How can you not love a mother who would move into a house with no electricity or indoor plumbing so her daughter can keep a pony she won in a contest?

Jill's mother in the Jill series. Lets her daughter have the freedom, but without being a kill joy.

I agree garej, I've always liked Jills mother she's so down to earth and puts Jill in her place when she is being a pain, tho it seems a bit incongruous with her character that she wrote such gruesome sounding books!
Going back to Noel and Henry I also liked General de Veriac (sp) from Radney Riding Club, the names he made up for the various club members and his comments when he's instructing them always make me smile.

The mother in JP-T's 'I had 2 ponies' who borrowed a caravan and towed them down to a cousin's place so that her niece along with her own kids could search for the idiot girls' 2nd pony, Daydream.

I like Miss Tuke, she is so awful you can't help but love her! I also like Martin Lowe, Major and Mrs, Holbrooke, Jake in Ponies in the Valley/Ponies in Peril, Jenny in Horsehaven.
