Sorry for my ignorance because I know you will all have seen them..! BUT how many Harry Potter films are there.? Having dicovered him late in life I am not sure if I've seen all his films...Only ever watch on TV ...Not keen on Cinema's now.. I will Duck now for the fans..!
I'm glad someone started a thread on this as would like to discuss harry potter with someone.
I think there are 5 films so far:
philosophers stone chamber of secrets prisoner of azkaban goblet of fire order of phoenix (just come out)
Like you I don't much go in for cinemas. Trying to remember the last time I went I prefer watching the DVDs.
Have you read all the books? Do you think the books are a lot better than the films? Probably my fav film of them all is prisoner of azkaban but then its my fav book of the series too.
If anyone on here has read all the books, do you think they get 'older' as the series goes on. I mean in terms of the reader age. The first couple are suitable for quite youngish children but the last one I feel is almost an adult book, very dark.
Yes Claire they do and they get darker...the tone of Goblet of fire, if you've read it is continued into the final ones, I assume she wrote the books for the same audience throughout but the time span meant they had grown up hence the books did too? Or maybe she realised by then she had a bigger adult fan base than child one as that was about the time they started to give them grown up covers too?
Books are always better than films!!!! I like Goblet Of fire best and it's my fave book, but the Deathly hallows is great too.
Exmoor fan...I have the first four DVD's if you want to borrow them let me know...am trying to get hold of latest one, but hate paying!
I love the pictures but after dragging Steve to first 2 films I have never got him within about 3 miles of a cinema since!
I am a huge HP fan like the books more was one of the very sad ones who was at book shop at midnight, and then back under the duvet this is more impressive as I had been out that night and was a little drunk they must have thought the local wino had arrived. Am with you Claire Prisoner of Azkaban is my favourite also liked chamber of secrets, I was a little disapointed with last book but agree very dark. At least it was not like Lord of the rings when my dad asked why I was crying on the way home of Return of The King, it was because it was over I had waited 15 long years for the films to me made and nearly done proberly
Yes, I have read them all. I think the dark tone starts in prisoner of azkaban, gets much darker in goblet and continues that way. I quite liked the last one although I thought there was too many deaths in it. I think you could be right haffyfan about JK making the books more adult to appeal to a large readership. Call me cynical but it seems very likely!
anyone who wants a copy of the last one I can do one for you, as Im doing one for my brother. Sorry I keep bringing up illegal topics on this forum. Will have to ban myself from my own forum!! ;D
seahorse PLEASE start a thread on lord of the rings (book or films) I love it!!
I watched it...the end bit got me....she made out she was poverty struck and barely surviving on benefits etc but then you saw her flat...i expected a real grotty ( not to mention pokey) council jobby and it looked rather large and trendy/modern to me....I know it will have been improved etc but it still didn't strike you as a place owned/lived in by someone surviving on benefits alone!
I know what you mean haffyfan...Lot's seemed untrue to me..Because i hadn't been up to date with her work I was intrigued because of the hype.. Very lucky though if your childhood fantasy turns out to be everyone else''s.. Good luck to her.. At least she gives to charity.. Something close to my heart..
I have read all the books, and I have all the DVDs (the last one for christmas).
Strangely enough, Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince is out this year, when the last one was only out last year.
I am not one of those ones that went to the bookshop at midnight - the last 4 came via the post from amazon, and the first 3 are paperbacks, which I bought at WHSmith long after they were first published.
I didn't know the next film was out this year. Maybe they made them both at the same time. They might have had to as the kids are just about grown up now! I love the books, so does just about everyone I know. They just seem to have a universal appeal. I agree with all the comments that the last book is very dark. But I enjoyed it. (Still like Goblet of Fire the best) I was left feeling very bereft when I had finished the last book. I didn't really like the ending much maybe she did that to make a statement that she is definitely not going to continue the series. Does anyone know if she is writing anything else? seahorse I love Lord ot the rings too I will post on that when I have more time...never seem to be able to get on the computer nowadays...
Hi all, me again...Does anyone know if the paperback book's are abridged.? I would like to collect the series but don't want to buy abridged versions.. Maybe the 1st 's will be worth a bit later but i may not be here then...lol
Hi, There are adult and child orientated covers for the later books...and some of the early reprints...I am guessing this is what you mean? There is a black adult cover and an illustrated kids one, of which there is a signed cover version too I think.
As far as I am aware non of the books are abridged in anyway but I think some of the US versions are slighty different...they are illustrated for a start, not sure about text.
Thanks haffyfan.. Thought you would know...I did see that there a child versions..It's just that the Hardbacks looked a lot thicker than the paperbacks so i thought they may be abridged. Maybe the text is bigger in the hardbacks.
Do you have a sussex stationay shop near you they get around they do box sets of normal covers and the special edition let me know if you want me find out prices let me know can always get them here and post them to you. I buy all my non pony books their as they are about 1/2 or £3 off all books and they have the full range that any other book shop sells
Haffy...the US editions had Americanized spellings and I understand some expressions considered too "English" were also Americanized. Modern publishers are idiots......I've got quite a number of English pony books in American printings from the 30s through the 70s, and they never changed text....part of the charm of a book from another country is that it opens a window into that other country.....Scholastic just closed the shutters....grr........
Hi susan, yes I quite agree, what is wrong with showing a differnt culture. Its actually quite insulting to the reader when they do that. If I read an American or Australian pony book (or indeed any book) I want to find out about that country and its people. As you say that is part of the charm and the interest. In the case of Harry Potter it is just plain ridiculous changing it as Hogwarts isnt exactly a typical English school!!! Someone tell the publishers its a fantasy...duh!
When is the next Harry Potter film due does any one know. Have promised my self I will see one on cinema, always end up missing them. stupid we have a lovely little one screen job in this town, 15min walk from home do I use it been 3 times.
I supose she had to be Pc somwhere lol but know have not heard this before, am still on withdrawal symtons form no more LOTR films, somenone please help me while typing this Gordon Ramsey has just taken his shirt off very nice (cant belive I just typed that)
I have all of them in hard back, and the first 4 were in a box set. I always wondered if the adult version had more swearing etc like 'The Curious Incident Of The Dog In The Night Time' does. I also heard that Dumbledore was gay... she said hshe just realised whilst she was writing and that adults would see that he had fallen in love with that guy he hung about with in his childhood (book 7). Well I guess you cant argue with a genious.

Bee Movie: According to all known laws of aviation,
there is no way a bee should be able to fly.
Its wings are too small to get its fat little body off the ground.
The bee, of course, flies anyway
because bees don't care
