Obviously the Silver Brumby books will be up there, but can we get a few more suggestions to make a poll.

Tam The Untamed and The Brumby, although I understand some dislike the latter.

The Silver brumby of course (anything by Elyne mitchell is fine by me actually) also Alyssa brugmans's Shelby books and Zita White's The One Day ponies.
Sure theres more but those immediatly spring to mind. SO does MEP actually but i'm not big fan of her books.
Oh wasn't james Aldridge an Aussie too?

I know The Snow Pony and the Quicksand Pony are set in Australia.... does that count? And yes, James Aldridge was Aussie.

Alison Lester is Australian so her books all count.
My fav Aussie book other than the Silver Brumby ones is Pony From Tarella by Mavis Thorpe Clarke. There's a few I quite like tho wouldn't say were outstanding: The Gift Wrapped Pony by Anne Farrell, Is Wishes Were Horses by Ivy Baker, the Shelley Peters books by Ellen Bosworth, Taronga Road Riders series.

I don't think that's a pony book. We had to watch the series way back at school when it first came out and read the book as well and I don't recall it being 'horsy' as such apart from everyone using horses and carts to get around back then. My memory could be failing me though!
You might be thinking of James Aldridge's Ride a Wild Pony/A Sporting Proposition with the crippled girl and Taff/Bo.

Claire I think you mean Shelley peters is the Gift wrapped pony the 'cow story'? Lol haffy, typing while my brain still in neutral as usual! I do mean Shelley Peters! Any yes Gift Wrapped Pony is the cow one, its part of a series set on a farm in Australia, as far as I can remember it the most horsy of them all.

Too late for the poll (and probably a moot point because nobody mentioned them), but what about the Koronglea books by Fae Hewston Stevens?
Has anyone read them? They look like fun, but would love to hear from someone who has read one before I fork over for the postage from Oz! I love adventures/mysteries with ponies too, like the Oxus books and Stephen Mogridge's New Forest books, so it's ok if the pony content isn't all that much.

Has anyone read the Elizabeth Whitbread books? A Good Summer for Riding was one, it featured a lovely pony called Sophy (I think)! They were set in Australia, and evoked our hot summer days perfectly.

yes, Spockswife, the Elizabeth Whitbread books are great. There is A Good Christmas for riding too. I would like there to be a follow up to that one, as the story was left a bit hanging. I love the scene where one of the girls wears her riding boots as a bridesmaid because the shoes provided were impossible to walk in, and they all fall over crashing hats...and try to make an ex- racehorse into a cutting horse.

I don't remember that! Will have to find a copy, I have been hunting but they seem to be quite hard to find
