Ok, I need a dentist.
I have a tooth that is broken and in bad shape... its been hurting all week.
So I call the Health Dept., they give me a number to a place in Chattanooga, who gives me another number......
Lady there says I need Proof of income, a picture ID, proof of address. Ok, no problem. I have no income, so that means I have to go to the IRS office and get a paper from them saying I haven't worked all year.
Ok, not a problem..... then she tells me I need 30.00 that there is no free clinic in the area.
What the??? I have no money, how do they except me to get 30.00??
I couldn't sleep last night, every time I laid on my side or if I turned my head to the side it would hurt....

Its not so bad here, if you are out of work or on long term sick you dont have to pay anything at all, but you do have to be registered with a national health service dentist so not sure what would happen if you were not already registered. Even using a national health service dentist is pretty expensive if you are working however. At least our health care is still free....at the moment....
Hope you get it sorted soon as tooth ache is nasty.

shadowhawke, I'm so sorry you're in such pain!
I know what you mean re the situation on dental/health care here....I've been job hunting for a while now too, and just keeping my fingers crossed that I stay healthy in the meantime, because without employer provided health benefits, you're truly flying without a net.
None of which commiseration does you any good. So...ideas....have you checked with local dental schools? They've got to exist, and while having advanced students work on you might not be appealing, it might be an option, and I understand that they work under the supervision of their instructors.

I have a fear of dentists so going to students wouldn't be a good thing. All I can do to stay calm... thank god for Ipods. I've been job hunting for about year, and nothing...
