Hi all, just started a thread for authors who sould be known better, but it also occurred to me that there are a number of authors who have written just the one pony book which people really enjoyed, and there should be a separate thread/poll for this.
I'll start the ball rolling with Mavis Thorpe Clarke's Pony From Tarella. Hopefully there will be enough suggestions for a top 10.

You've got a good memory susan, I'd forgotten that thread! I said The Milkmans Cob that time.

I'd add Jean Kinnard - Finding our stirrups Elizabeth moore - Something to Jump for
Does the Maltese Cat qualify? Generally Do one hit wonders in this genre count or does it require genuine one book authors?
If just this genre I'd also add
the guy who did International Velvet Carolyne Henderson - the Grey ghost Susan millard - Against the Odds C Northcote Parkinson - Ponies plot AD Langham - Queen Rider Gunnel Linde - pony In The Luggage (don't know if he/she did other stuff too or not?)

Crikey I'd forgotten that thread too susan! Its interesting to note that most of the books I hadn't heard of then (2 years ago-ish) I have now read or at least know about. Hardly need to do this thread now as lots of ammo for a poll there already Haffy, yes I think we can count the one-hit-wonder as being in the genre, rather than books overall. As far as I know Gunnel Linde (a she!) only wrote one pony story. Bryan Forbes was the writer of International Velvet. I did have a page on him once but it mysteriously disappeared Another one I'd add which I dont think was mentioned on the original post: Olive Norton - Bob-a-job Pony

The Pony Problem by Barbara Holland. Pony in the Luggage - I read the primary school library copy over and over, probably was the only 'pony' book they had . Interesting to see others remember this odd funny little story (as I recall it). Ride A Wild Pony/A Sporting Proposition by James Aldridge. I think it's his only 'pony' book. I have read others of his that I liked too. Looks like 'pony' is in the title of a lot of these - good way to get the pony-mad kids to read your book .

I've read several from the list too....not as many as I'd like, but still....
Your mention of Bob-a-Job Pony gave me an idea for another thread....."Rarest of the Rare".....the books that are just about impossible to find, at any price!!

Not a pony book in the strictest sense but Sheena Wilkinson's Taking flight is excellent! Also has Kim Ablon Whitney been nominated for The perfect distance yet?

A classic altho more of a unicorn than pony story perhaps is Little White Horse by Elizabeth Goudge. Also A Horse Named Cinnamon.
Added poll.
