I know he's fairly old but it sounds a bit fishy to me unless the price is wrong He looks lovely...and not far from me but can't see him being equipped to live out at his age after being fully stabled most of his life... You'd have thought an equestrian collage/stables would have had him on loan like a shot (she clearly isn't selling for the money after all) if he's as good as it makes out...

Not far from you ----- and you have got a lovely field shelter and yours have posh rugs! He'd be just fine like that! I've had horses living out during the winter before, but have to admit, after the last two winters I would only consider it with a good field shelter and really good rugs, especially as the fashion now is not to just cut hedges but completely destroy them So you go and get him, and we'll have a whip round for his rug!!

There are an awful lot of mega-cheap horses around. There was an oldish mare for £149 and lots of ex race horses for less than £500 on horsemart in north yorkshire.

The recession, not to mention terrible weather and price of/lack of in places hay will mean a lot of cheap horses out there and ex racers have only ever gone for meat money at the sales at the best of times - My friends old boy now Ad's (well into his 20's now) cost £1000 as a 12/13 year old out of racing and hacking out etc by his last racing owners daughter (he started on flat as a 2yr old and went on over sticks till he was 11 - sound as bell and clearly one tough cookie as almost triple number of starts!) - he had cost 80k as a baby which is comparitatively a small amount really compared to some and his £1000 price tag was quite hefty compared to the couple of hundred quid a lot at the sales sell for. It's shocking how they are thrown out when past their usefulness I would have thought just to say you own and ex olympic showjumper is worth way more than £700 and if he's fit and well.... just seems fishy to me but I'm a pessimist by nature according to my OH (I think I'm a realist!)

Didnt she say she was preggers so couldn't look after him, same story with some of the others going cheap, people having kids then not having time for their horse (or dog or cat happens with all pets) any more. Personally i would rather have a dog, cat or horse than a sprog any day! (Apologies to the members of the forum with children!)

People thought I was weird because I didn't want children. I never did, still don't now and I've never regretted not having any. So there! to all the people who said I would regret it

Yes, exactly the same as you two. They usually give up when you get to a certain age (which I have mercifully passed) and you get some peace!

Like many others, I dont want kids. I will stick with cats, thanks.
Part of the reason is because I am too selfish, I would rather spend any money I have (after paying bills etc) on things that I like, rather than because a kiddie needs new shoes (or whatever else they need). If I want to go out or go somewhere like last minute, then I can (because as long as the cats have water, food and a litter tray they dont care). With a kid, then of course I have to either have them tag along or find a suitable babysitter etc. I stop being me, I become a mum etc.
I also dont like kids, as most kids today are rather rude and lack discipline due to bad parents (though there are good ones out there) which is annoying because you get blamed for something that is clearly the kiddies fault. Also, I dont know if it is just my area, but the single mothers are very selfish about the disabled spaces/buggy bays on the buses. It was a nightmare on the buses the last bank holiday....

Oh yes, mine are quite well behaved. Tigger doesnt like the wind and then she becomes naugthy, meowing and jumping all over the place. I think she likes to tell it off because when I have the gas fire on & she tells me off for turning it off! Similarly in the summer when I have to close the windows, she also tells me off then!

Hi again- yes still alive...maybe kicking a bit less. I have the lot- partner, 2 kids, 2 cats, 3 chooks, a senile dog and a horse. Would NEVER have any more kids but want more horses and cats, even tho the latest kitten that I rescued from the RSPCA WORSHIPS my bloke, adores my 2 boys and treats me with utter disdain- a right little madam.

Hi Cally nice to hear from you. Hope you are keeping well. Interesting what you say about your kitten as in my experience cats usually prefer women to men.
