Has anyone had them with their pets.? My Ted has the sneezes at the minute.. Talked to the vet and they said they get virus;s not actually colds.. My firends had it last week so assume he caught it from his girlfriend.. ( snogging i expect.) He doesn't have a temp.. Just keeps sneezing. So wrapped him up warm for his walks today.. And gave him some Benylin.. First time I have had this with doggies..

Actually mine did have something like that once too, it wasn't kennel cough, seemed very mild, but like you say, lots of sneezing.

All my cats have had colds from time to time. Most of the time they just get better in a few days. Seems similar to human colds with runny nose and sneezing. Also my cat Barney had cat flu when he was a kitten (he was a rescued feral kitten) which is a lot more serious but he recovered from it. Can't recall the dog getting a cold tho. Naughty Teddy thats what he gets from gallivanting! Hope he gets better soon. Give him a big cuddle from me x

Cats can get sneezing viruses - at least twice a year we (at the cats protection) get a sneezing bug when half the cats are on antibiotics. Due to the way our adoption centre is set up any bug spreads like wildfire. There is nothing you can do but wait and let the bug run it's course. If it is just one or two cats then they isolate them, but half the time more cats are sneezing than they have room in the isolation unit! It also means that no cats can go out and until the vet gives the OK we cant take any in, which means the waiting list grows! Our last bug it lasted for well over a month.
It also means that from a volunteer point of view, that we cant go in and cuddle the cats due to the fact we may spread the virus from one to another. So the majority of the cats get quite depressed due to having no fusses. Also from the public's point of view, depending on how bad the virus is, we have either banned the public from seeing the cats entirely (basically locked the door and shoved a sign saying "due to a virus in the cattery we are unable to let any members of public in the building. If you need any assistance in any other way please phone xxxxx") or let the public in, but told them they are not allowed to go in to see any of the cats. Also from a cleaning point of view, very often we have had to put extra protective gear on that normally is not necessary.
Last time it happened, Pickle started sneezing a little and a little off his food, took him to the vet who said (they are the same vets as the Cats Protection use) that I was worrying a little too much, and unless there was snot, or he stopped eating entirely not to worry, and also it wasnt the same viruses as was going around in the Cats Protection. For a couple of days I mixed up a little senior with his special diet (he is normally not allowed senior food due to bad kidneys) and he picked up after that. He normally has very runny eyes anyway (he has blocked tear ducts).
So if your cat is sneezing badly or has very runny eyes, or off his food (or showing any other worrying signs) then I wouldnt worry too much. Obviously keep an eye on him - with this cold weather it is possible he has caught a slight chill.

Well the update is he started doing this reversed sneezing which is frightening to watch but apparently common.. You have to breathe or pinch thier noses gently to stop it.. It looks like an asthma attack So I took him to the vet today and she gave him a long acting anti inflamitory... Now Flo has started it.. I don't think the weather can help. Warm one minute and cold and wet the next.. Still all eating well and lively enough but vet said try to stop any excitement ..haha .And reduced excercise for a few days..
