Been as I got the Radio Times Christmas edition recently and checked, there is a handful of horse related stuff. No horsey films however I've stuck to the free channels on freesat/freeview/sky as I know not everyone has paid for channels (I certainly don't), so there may be more (for example there is more coverage of Olympia on Eurosport). We dont have cable in this area, or know anyone with cable, so there may be more stuff on their free channels. BBC Red Button:-Monday 20 December 1900-2230 Live coverage of the whole evening's entertainment from Olympia, including the Grand Prix. (Sadly, not on Freeview, but is available on their website for UK people and available on the red button facility on sky/freesat)TV schedule:-Saturday 18 December More 4 19.55-21.00 Making War Horse, also repeated 1.20-2.20 am (A documentary about how War Horse by Michael Morpurgo was adapted for the stage) Monday 27 December BBC 2 15.40-17.45 Hidalgo (An horsey film, about a horse and rider who are entered for a 3000 mile long distance ride) Not showing on BBC 2 Wales and BBC 2 Northern Ireland's analogue service. That is about it, as it only goes up to New Year's Eve. There are tons of Westerns about however if you like that thing, or simply want to see horses.

Thanks for that garej. I also think I saw Hidalgo listed in the TV paper tho not sure when or on what station. Yes you are right. The reason I didn't notice is that for some reason BBC 2 Wales is not showing it, and the amendment is in tiny writing in the Radio Times. My mum has bought a different Christmas TV guide and that is how come I have noticed it. I have now checked more thoroughly and it's on 27 December, BBC 2, 15.40-17.45. BBC 2 Wales and BBC 2 Northern Ireland (analogue) are not showing it, but BBC 2 England, BBC 2 Northern Ireland (digital) and BBC 2 Scotland are. So potentially you may miss it, if you can't receive all BBC 2 regions (fortunately on Freesat and Sky you can). I have now amended the original post, in case people don't scroll down.

Thanks garej, I have for some reason never got round to seeing Hidalgo so may get to watch it now as actually in a house with a TV for a change Have been watching some of Olympia while stuck in bed with lurgy. Unfortunately spoilt by Clare Balding who seems to present anything with a whiff of horsiness nowadays and who for some reason really gets up my nose. Was show jumping really as mercenary when I used to watch it as a kid as it is now? One of the Puissance horses was bought by a moneybags owner specifically to try and win the comp 2 weeks beforehand and is being shipped off again straight afterwards. Poor horse cant know whether its coming or going. Anyway, if you missed it there is coverage of the Puissance and the World Cup on iplayer: www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/tv/categories/sport/equestrian

Thanks Claire, just had a quick look. I like to watch John Whitiker. I rememer the days as a kid watching Harvey Smith, David Broom and Marion Mould jumping. Showing my age now lol about Claire Balding. She presents non-horsey stuff too. There was a programme the other day I was watching about bike riding around the countryside and she was presenting it

Oi cheeky, trying to nick our showjumpers! They're technically good Yorkshire stock ;D John and Milton were always my faves (met them when Milton...cos lets face it he was the bigger star/attraction ) when they reopened our local tackshop ( well these days it's not strictly local but still can't find a better one, Throstle Nest) many years ago now Also liked Nick Skelton, Geoff Billington and Franki Sloothaak (sp)

Wow - the World Cup jumping was great - thanks for the link (not sure the winner enjoyed wearing the H & M plastic bag rug at the end though and he looked like he wanted a good old roll in all that sand).
One horse I love watching jump who wasn't there is Tyson - a bit quirky!

Oi cheeky, trying to nick our showjumpers! They're technically good Yorkshire stock ;D Well I do live in Yorkshire and it is up in t'north Loved Milton too, as well as Ryan's Son with his big white face. Was so sad when he died. Lucky haffy meeting Milton & John. Also lucky to still actually have a tack shop nearby! Did anyone see today's Olympia? Off to try and find it on the net somewhere.

I was at Olympia on Sun evening- it's a great atmosphere and you get quite a lot for your money; the Ukrainian cossack riders were crazy and the Household Cavalry Musical Ride was awesome.
I just find it mad watching John Whittaker as I had a poster of him and Milton on my bedroom wall twenty years ago!
I rather like Clare Balding, she is calm and unflappable and has a pleasant voice. Usually asks fairly sensible questions when interviewing.
Hidalgo is a mildly enjoyable film; the horse in it is very cute, as is Viggo Mortensen, though I prefer him all rough and manly as Aragorn, grrrr!

Lucky you foxglove! I like all that other stuff as well as the jumpig itself tho less of it on tv than used to be. Sadly I couldn't find any of the 'red button' stuff that was on last night anywhere on the net. Garej you said it was available on "their website" - which website did you mean as iplayer has only the puissance and the world cup jumping?

I watched "Making War Horse"...very clever how they make the horse puppets move so realistically.
