Nominations for the funniest pony books or series please. Pony Club Camp and Team always make me chuckle, especially Archie and the 'glove' incident. I'll try and add the polls for the other threads tonight, bit busy today!

The Intruders by Veronica Westlake is funny, there's a great horse character in it. Also funny is The Unwilling Adventurers by her too, but it would be stretching the point to call it a pony story as just a weeny bit of horse stuff in it.

I think The Year of the Horse - DIana Walker was quite funny (ages since I read it though so not sure if it is this book I am thinking of).

Definite flashes of humor in Walker's Year of the Horse, but far more in the book of the same title by Eric Hatch, which is essentially a comedy (by the author of My Man Godfrey)

I've always wondered why there aren't more humourous pony books considering the potential for farce and hilarity in the world of horses! Any theories anyone.....?

Maybe because children in general take things so seriously, especially when it comes to their pets, that it would almost seem cruel to laugh at them?
All the same, when it's done well, it's just fantastic. Have you ever read Barbara Holland's The Pony Problem? A look at what it might REALLY be like when a girl in a suburban housing tract wins a pony in a contest.

No I havent susan. I really must get my hands on that, its on my to read pile but from what I have heard must move it up to near the top!
You could be right about the taking things seriously thing susan, when you think of all the books with angst ridden heroines worried about their ponies or their riding or not getting a pony, etc, compared to the light hearted ones. Its a shame really as when I was a kid ponies were mainly fun. It was only when I went to a posh riding school later on that I experienced the serious side of things and it didnt really sit well with me. Prob why I love the humourous pony books so much.
Dark Horse of Woodfield, although not out and out laugh out loud funny, has some good humourous bits and some great eccentric characters. Its definitely on the side of humour rather than seriousness.

Ooh forgot about the Trick Jumpers, yes it had some funny bits in it too.
Thanks for the links about Barbara Holland susan. I'd already read the NY times interview but somehow missed the fact that she was Marion Holland's daughter (disgracefully unobservant of me!) Need to update the pages on my website now!
