Haven't got time at the mo to set up polls for the other categories, so thought I'd quickly start a new top 10 thread until I get round to it. Thanks to kunuma who suggested this thread! Hopefully we can get enough titles for a top 10.
My favourites are probably The Mystery Trek by Primrose Cumming and Jills Pony Trek.

Jackie and the Pony Trekkers
Five Proud Riders by Ann Stafford and Three Jays against the clock are both about trekking in and to the New Forest.

You'd think, given the size of the US, that there would be lots of trekking stories....nope! There are certainly long distance rides, but they tend to be business (cattle drive) or competitive (endurance) in nature.
That said, I do know of one: The Mysterious Buckskin by Patsey Gray (writing under pseud. Virginia Clark)
Moving on, I'd also add the following:
Horses in the Glen by Gillian Baxter
Runaway Riders by Bernagh Brims
Four Rode Home by Primrose Cumming
Gymkhana Trek by Jo Packer (unconventional, but still!)
Last, but not least, The Far Distant Oxus by Katherine Hull and Pamela Whitlock features an excellent trek, where the children take turns riding/leading the ponies and punting a raft laden with their baggage en route to a camp out by the sea.

Do true stories count?? My two favourites are based on real life T's ride (not going to try spelling it) and Trigger across Europe Pony Trek Hilda Bowden Ponies for Hire We Rode to the Sea Ride by Night The 'moor' books by the PT's were based around a trekking stables and how could we not mention Mrs Tuke!!!!!

Ponies for Hire by Margaret MacPherson? I really liked that one too, and almost listed it, but wasn't sure it counted as trekking...I always think of trekking as long distance/camping out, and I remember Ponies for Hire as being horses for rent for day rides, which in the US would just be livery, not trekking.

Has to be fiction, so you could have The Tale of Two Horses the fictionalised version of Tschiffeley's Ride.
Which of the Jinny books do they set out on a trek with Miss Tuke when she gets injured? That one could maybe count as a trekking story.
Susan, trekking in this country can be one day, in fact you can even go on hourly treks! Not much different from hacking (trail rides) except the treks are mainly at a walk and they often include people who havent rode before. So yes, Ponies for Hire would be fine.
As well as Jackie and the Pony Trekkers, they also revisited Pinewoods Trekking Centre in Jackie and the Misift Pony. Another JMB one is from the Pippa series, Pony Trekkers Go Home

;D Susan the British idea of pony trekking (and I have worked in one or two trekking establishments in my time ;D ;D) is to ride to the pub, have lunch, extremely reluctantly climb back on board after said lunch, and ride.............slowly. . back to the stables in time for tea!!!!!

Jill's Pony Trek is my favourite, and I'm sure in childhood I read Ponies on the Trail which I think was a D P-T sequel to Ponies in the Valley.
There's also Blackbird's Pony Trek by Jo Furminger.

Put my thinking cap on and thought of quite a few more:
Highland Pony Trek by Pat Leitch Horseshoes and Handlebars by M. E. Atkinson Pony Trekking Summer by Jane McIlwaine Come Pony Trekking With Me by Veronica Heath and a modern one Pony Trek by Gill Morrell
Although Miss Tuke owns a trekking stables I doubt we can call the whole Jinny series a trekking one however I think we can count Chestnut Gold as Jinny et al set off for a proper trek in that one.
Addin a poll shortly!
