The three that spring to mind immediately are Follyfoot, Hollywell Stables and Horsehaven series.

Obviously follyfoot is top choice for me Would you class the Worlds End series as rescue stories? They did seem to take in a lot of animals

Another American book that nobody will recognize, The Secret Horse by Marion Holland. One of my all time favorite books from childhood, it came out in hardcover and in two paperback editions and is generally very cheap.
Cassidy in Danger (aka This Pony is Dangerous) by Diana Pullein-Thompson

Some excellent suggestions folks. But wasn't The Great Horse Rescue by Jane Ayres?
Hmm not sure about the Worlds End series, they did take in lots of waifs and strays tho, so maybe....
I do know about the Secret Horse susan, it is on my huge list of books to get round to reading tho!

The second Heronsway book has them sort of rescuing the donkey and also Adam's pony Cindy was another sort of rescue I think (as in rough owner rather than neglected).
Rosina Copper
A horse by Any other name - Jenny hughes
Pat leitch - To Save A Pony
Stable for jill (the Pedro bit)
Just trying to read Blue roan child (finding it hard going) and that involves a sort of rescue again (as in a rescue bid after the horses are captured)

You're right, Claire, Great Horse Rescue was Jane Ayers, Baxter's entry for the Allen Equestrian series was Bargain Horse.
Digressing a bit, I don't think there are enough titles to do a "top 10", but maybe for a genre list, jobs with horses? Real, professional jobs, not "helping out at the local stables", or working the family stables/farm/whatever, but ones where the characters actually had to apply for and obtain jobs.

Oh I dont know susan, there might be enough for a top 10 jobs/careers - I can think of 3 others straight off the top of my head. I think I'll add it to the rapidly increasing 'top 10s' list!

LOL...what have we started?
One more to add to that list....probably the rarest book in my collection though, Grand Rogue by Francis Priddy.
I actually emailed to a indie reprint company in the US, Image Cascade, suggesting that Priddy would be a good fit for their company, and they responded saying that yes, she did look like someone they'd be interested in....hope they do pick her up. I've got her two horse books, and reprints would lower their market value, but I'd still rather see them available!!
I thought of a few others where girl is hired by neighbor to work with a difficult horse (Vicki and the Brown Mare by Sam Savitt, Impossible Horse by Christine Keir/Pullein-Thompson), but that's still not the real-world-answering-an-ad-and-convincing-a-professional-horseman-that-you're-worth-hiring.

Getting a little confused here. Is Grand Rogue a rescue story or a job one? I'd better start a separate thread for the jobs or this thread will be getting too complicated!
Edited to say have started the new thread.
Just thought of a good rescue one: Ponies in Peril by DPT

Grand Rogue is a job title, not rescue....I'll zip off to put it on the new thread!

Oops - I think I was thinking of Bargain Horses in that JA Allen series - think that was Gilliam Baxter - so long since I read either. (Got them both from a visit to the old JA Allen bookshop in London - long gone unfortunately).

A few other obvious ones which I can't believe we have forgotten:
For Love of a Horse & The Magic Pony from the Jinny series
The Empty Field by CPT, where they save the shire horses
Save the Ponies by JPT
All Change/The Hidden Horse by JPT
Also A Horse Called September and Sea Star Orphan of Chincoteague are partly rescue stories.
Please add any more suggestions today as I am putting the poll up tonight.

The Team K M Peyton (Toad was in a state at the sale)
Horse from Black loch (or are we only going down the 'abused; rescue lines)
