When I was a kid it was my life's dream to run a riding school. My best friend and I pretended we had our own riding stables when we werent riding our ponies. ;D So this section is close to my heart as these were some of my fav stories as a kiddiwink. I must pick my fav Jill and Jackie books: A Stable for Jill and Ten Ponies and Jackie.
BTW will add poll for showjumping and eventing stories tomorrow - don't forget to vote.

I have only read Silver Eagle Riding School by Primrose Cumming (the other two I dont own), which is good except for the odd name of Doctor!
The Fisher and Alcotts series by CPT (The Empty Field, The Open Gate, The Doping Affair/The Pony Dopers) is another one, but I must say it is not one of my favourite series.
In one of the Jill books, Jill effectively (along with friends) runs Mrs Darcy's Riding School for her, when Mrs Darcy is ill. I cant remember which one it is though.
However, in A Stable For Jill, she runs a stable along with Bar, Mike and Pat Walters from the local (to Cecilia, that is) vicarage.

David and Pat run a riding school in The Second Mount. Another PT riding school one - Riders on the March/They Rode to Victory.
Then there is the Riding School series by Sam Alexander.

Hmmm, does trekking stables count as riding stables or is that a different poll?? (I am paying attention but can't remember longer than 5 seconds any more :

I don't think we had a category for trekking stories. I might add a separate one for it if we can think of 10!

I'm struggling to think of many- you'd think it would be an obvious subject, but I guess so many pony books were written in an era when many country kids had their own ponies.
I recall a more modern book called Pony Quest which was based around a stables, and was part of a series. It wasn't that great though.
I guess we're saving The Saddle Club for the Worst List?!

Yes I think the Saddle Club may be reseved for the worst list lol. I think you mean the Heronsway series foxglove, I dont think they were that bad. I'll add them to the list as we havent got many. We could do with about 3 or 4 more suggestions before putting up a poll so get thinking folks.

I've just thought of a couple more. Riding with the Kindles by Shirley Faulkner Horne. Really enjoyed this one. Applegate by Fiona Citroen. Personally I didn't like this book very much but others might do.

Does Horses and Heather by Gillian Baxter count as riding school? I loved it, but not sure if it was more riding school or more livery, if you see what I mean.

Forgot about Applegate, hmm not sure if it will get many votes but I'll add it as we need some more. Haven't read Horses and Heather for yonks but as far as I can remember it was a sort of riding school as well as livery as I am sure they had to teach some kids or give rides - so unless anyone has any objections I'll include it!

To Save a Pony by Pat Leitch.
I've only just re-read it and is pleasant 'kids start a riding school book', too late for the poll I know..
