Hi all,
Not a thread really, but partly a moan, partly an apology.
First of all sorry to anyone if I havent answered your personal mails/emails. I will get round to it. I have been through a bit of a stressful time at the mo (which is where the moan comes in) Was due to move house next week but everything is now off. Just spent ages trying to sort out probs with the mortgage company and now my buyer has just pulled out leaving me in the lurch with a house full of boxes and a huge solicitors bill. Have been so busy trying to sort this all out have been too knackered and too stressed out to go on the computer much. You may have noticed I havent shown my face on the forum much lately either!
Why is house-buying/selling in this counrty such a mess? This is the 2nd buyer who has dropped out. (The first mercifully before any fees had been accrued) and I have also been gazumped on a house I was buying. It seems to be designed to take as much time, money and cause as much stress as humanly possible.
Well moan over for now! Talk to you all again soon!

Hi Claire
Having read your bit about house selling I thought I'd lend some support! We moved here just over a year ago - the whole thing was a nightmare! The first house we were buying was suddenly taken off the market - luckily we like this one far more but at the time it was a terrible blow. We sold our house six or seven times ( i forget just how many! ) and had buyers pull out either beacuse in three cases they just never contacted anybody again after making an offer ( why do people do this?!!!), or because they expected to buy a 150 year old house and have a perfect survey ( which of course just doesn't happen and you have to read between the lines!). It is a TERRIBLE system and as far as I'm concerned I will never move again - luckily I love it here so much, I can't imagine wanting to move! Try and keep your pecker up and plough on - not easy I know! When you do find the right buyers you'll probably find everything moves incredibly quickly - which is what happened to us. I'll try and send positive thoughts!

Hi poglepie, Thanks for the support. Have been trying to move for 18 months now. I need to downsize too as the house is too big and mortgage huge so until I sell I am skint! I wouldn't care but my last move was also a nightmare. Don't think I will be doing it many more times!

Hi Claire Best of luck it will come right, the system in this country is a mess, should be like France the buyers have to pay a depoist so at least you get somthing to help cover costs. Have just brought first flat and have sworn never to do it again

I can sympathise Claire, the only consolation I can give you is that trying to rent is even worse!! At present I am desperately trying to convince estate agents, (not known for their depth of compassion!!) that there is a difference between people who care for their animals, and hence are responsible tenants, and those idiots who let their animals run riot and get everyone a bad name! When I win the lottery I am going to buy an entire village, (didn't one just get sold on ebay?) and ONLY rent properties to people with pets!!

Would love to live in that village kunuma!
I know what you mean about renting and pets, I may have to rent for a while now and there is just nowhere in the town I am moving to that will take pets. I would much rather have a pet owner if I was renting out my home as in general I think they are nicer more responsible people. Rather have a bit of fur or what have you around than someone trashing the place! I was lucky when I did rent a house a while back to have a nice landlord who didn't mind me having three cats!

In the USA, they have a system where if you are renting, you pay an extra fee (non refundable) so that you can have a pet in the house. Generally it is around $500.
This is because when you move out of the house they use some of the money to repair any pet damage and to clean the carpets so that it doesnt smell of cat/dog. Of course, you still have to keep the house in a reasonable state by cleaning it regularly, but I wish landlords would do that over here.
I rent: because mine is owned by a housing charity, it says on the tenancy that you are allowed to keep a caged pet (such as a fish or a pet rat) without permission. However, if you want a cat or a dog, you do have to apply for written permission (which I got). The person who is in charge of my flat, said that generally people have to be in the flat a year before they give permission, however because she knew that I work for the Cats Protection, I only had to wait 2 months (and since I signed at the end of November last year I was waiting until January anyway). She also said that in the past with other tenants, she has snatched pets that werent being looked after properly, and handed them into the RSPCA.
Another thing: I was with another landlord in 2001. However as I was a model tenant, although my tenancy agreement said that no pets were allowed, he did relent in the end, and said that I could, but I was only allowed a caged pet. As I was living on the top floor, and in a much smaller flat, a dog or cat wouldnt have been practical anyway, so I got a budgie.

Hi Claire,
Have just found this..DOH..
I too have been trying to move for the last two years...So know your problems..
Someone mentioned paying a holding fee.! You can do this..! In Somerset they do this all the the time..Just ask for a deposit..It sorts out geniune buyers..

Sorry exmoorfan did not notice you had posted on this thread!
My house move appears to be on again, my buyers have got another buyer and so things are starting to move once more. However I'm taking it all with a pinch of salt as its been going on for so long now with no result...
Talking of the 'holding fee' the sellers of the house I was buying wanted me to do this but I wouldnt cos of the amount they were asking. But I do think a smallish desposit is a good idea, it would certainly keep away the timewasters.

Hi Claire, Yes they ask a £1,000 just to make sure you are genuine..Returnable if survey fails..But with hips this shouldn't happen now in theory..
