The Right Hand Man by K. M. Peyton Hi all, as promised, a special group read to celebrate the life and work of one of the greatest ever writers of horse and pony stories - K. M. Peyton, who died recently. The book chosen is a lesser known title - partly as we have already covered most of her more famous books - partly as it's new to a few of the forum members. Discussion to start in 2-3 week's time. NB. As this just about coincides with Easter, it being early this year, it may replace the usual Easter read and we can do a late spring read instead. Or I may find an Easter-themed short story/very short book which we can fit in - we can discuss possibilities on the 'next book' thread.

Sounds good, thanks Claire! Hoping it kicks me out of my readers block....I've got two (non-pony) books going, and making little progress with either

Started to read and was enjoying it but one of my cats has gone missing and Iβm too worried to concentrate on reading at the moment. π©

Oh no, that's awful news. I hope you get him/her back soon.
I've literally just started the book.

Claire, Iβm so sorry your cat has strayed! I hope he/she finds their way home safely soon!!!!
Re the read, you and Darkhorse are ahead of me, I have it but havenβt begun to read it yet. My plan was to read this past week, as I was on vacation. Unfortunately, I caught cold before vacation started, got worse as I travelled to DC for a long weekend, had to cancel my flight home and come back on the train (6.5hrs) and then got still sicker. Turns out it morphed into ear and sinus infection. On antibiotics now, sitting lethargically and watching Poirot. Pathetic, really π

Thanks darkhorse and susan, thankfully she has been found! Has been a stressful time to say the least and my plans to read the book and do an Easter quiz have been scuppered. But the main thing is she is back, safe and sound so I can't complain.
Ah I'm sorry to hear about your maladies susan, that sounds miserable! Hope you get better very soon.

I am enjoying the book but it's hard going due to the tiny text. I got a paperback but should have got a hardback as reading it is a struggle and can only read a few pages at a time. Doesn't help that my reading glasses need updating! How is everyone else getting on?

Having the same problems with the small print. None of us are getting any younger!

LOL, I was thinking the same thing. I remembered why I hadnβt read it when I opened it and saw that text π

I managed to finish it! I voted very good. I'll comment more later on as my internet connection isn't too good at the moment.

I'm afraid I'm bringing up the rear here! Got pulled away by income tax filing deadline...it really crept up on me this year. A bit over halfway through the book now, really enjoying it. Should finish it off this week/weekend.

I've just remembered that I never did write down any comments about the book. I enjoyed it but didn't find it like the other books of hers which I have read which is probably why it's one of her least known ones. Definitely not a comfort read. I would think it was written for adults. It's quite brutal. Lots of blood, gore and also sex is alluded to quite a bit. But not graphic haha! I liked the historical detail. She was very good at writing historical novels. Flambards springs to mind. I think that must have been her most famous book?

Ive finished. Thought it was excellent, but have unfortunately been too busy to gather my thoughts about it and get my comments on 'paper.' Should have a free moment come the weekend.
