THE SPOOKY PONY MYSTERY AND OTHER STORIES BY JANE AYRES As usual our Autumnal group read also has a spooky theme for the Halloween period. This is a book of short spooky stories by the excellent pony author Jane Ayres. It's an easy short read and is available as a paperback, e-book or is free is you have an Amazon Unlimited account (free trials are usually available if you haven't) I read this a few years back as a review copy and enjoyed it - hope others will too, I'll be happy to have a re-read. Read the first story which is quite long, almost a mini novel. Nice enjoyable read with some spooky monents. Will finish the others tonight or tomorrow, then vote.

This was a re-read for me and I thoroughly enjoyed it. A lot of authors don't seem to be able to manage the short story genre, but Jane Ayres is pretty good at it, having written many short stories for magazines. The first story is longish, as Darkhorse mentioned almost a novella. But most are much shorter. They still manage to pack in a lot. There are a good mix of stories in the book, some fairly light hearted and gentle with a slight spooky twist. However some of the stories really are quite scary. The author pulls no punches in these - in fact a couple of them have fairly gruesome endings! It is quite unusual to find genuinely creepy or scary pony stories as most I've read contain ghosts who are not really malevolent. It really is a very good read for Halloween!

Did anyone else get round to reading the book?

I read this last year and enjoyed it. But as a guest it won't let me vote in the poll.

I actually started to read this but forgot to post. Wasn't really my thing, and so only read the first two stories before giving up i'm afraid.
