This is just about Girls Gone By, the publishers. They do school stories above all, especially the Chalet School and it's astounding number of so-called fill-ins (fanfic books), along with many others such as Melling. But also some pony books, Monica Edwards at least. Without GGB and rivals, many rare/expensive old books would have been virtually impossible to read, so they've done a good service for sure. But it's a pretty sore point/a contentious issue, for many people in the Chalet School community, that GGB refuse to sell EBooks for Kindle or whatever. GGB did try selling a few Chalet EBooks themselves, I bought most of them, DRM-free (I hate DRM on Ebooks, it's bloody annoying and doesn't stop piracy, because there are ways to remove it. Watermarking is a better idea) which is better than Kindle IMO, but they discontinued it some years ago.
The trouble is that they're a small publisher with limited runs, so many GGB books themselves tend to become at least somewhat rare/expensive, after a while. EBooks would preserve classics such as The Nightbird affordably, for all time. Some other similar publishers do EBooks, there's clearly a demand for them. I've seen numerous theories posted as to why GGB won't do them, but still don't get it. I just wanted to say that, if you happen to buy a book from their website, or maybe even if you don't, please could you e-mail them and say you'd really like to have EBooks. This is hypocritical because I haven't actually contacted them myself (I get social anxiety about that kind of thing, have let sellers on EBay get away with things I really should have complained about), but I'll think about it.
