My old cat, Toots, has been having a few issues with going to the bathroom in the wrong places, lately. The vet gave her some tablets a wee while ago, but these didn't seem to have much effect. So, I arranged to take her back again today, and the prognosis isn't great. Basically, Toots's kidneys are giving in. She's drinking a helluva lot, and she's peeing just as much. The vet also reckoned the reason she was doing it some much indoors was because her breathing isn't so hot, either, meaning that it was easier for her to go to the toilet indoors than go outside. She was given a steroid and an antibiotic to help her, and we've to take her back in a week's time. It was either that, or have her put down. Sorry, but I wasn't quite ready to let her go....

Oh Daren so sorry to hear about Toots. As you know I've recently been thru similar with my old cat so I know what its like. Just hoping the steroid and antibiotics will perk her up for a while. How old is she?

I'm sorry Daren; it is so hard with our aging friends. I hope she picks up.

Claire - she turned 17 at the start of last month, so she's had a long life, though not without issue. That said, I'm just not ready to say goodbye to her. What drives me mad is that, apart from the toilet issues, she seems utterly fine - she nearly took my mum's fingers off earlier when presented with a chicken drumstick!

It kinda goes without saying this is probably the hardest thing I've ever written, so I'll keep it short.... Toots is gone. She was put to sleep at the vets this morning. It broke my heart through to the very core, but I couldn't watch her suffer her ailments any longer. There wasn't much could be done for her, but that still doesn't make it feel like the right thing to do. She was, quite simply, the best cat I've ever known. Sleep tight, kitten. Attachments:

Daren I can't say how sorry I am about that. I know exactly what you are going through as I've just been through it myself. Don't feel it was the wrong thing to do cos you made the right decision for your beloved Toots. When you feel less emotional you will realise that. Toots is at peace. My thought are with you xxx

I am so sorry Daren; I know its hard but I always think it is the last best gift we can give our companion animals when they are ill and tired. My sympathies
