Help all you cat folk, I have the weirdest problem with my cat - I have no idea what is wrong, I'd suspect something like a stroke but she appears completely normal physically except for a slightly too full abdomen for a cat that's stopped eating, but before this happened she was eating and pooing totally normally.
When I left the house yesterday morning she was quite normal, when I came home I thought she had been subject to a terrible fright (there could have been severe noise disturbance but nothing could have physically touched her.)She was hiding away terrified and meowing, never ever seen such behaviour in her before in the ten years I've had her. When I let her out of the room she relaxed a lot, but is terrified to go back in there and instead of sitting in one of her beds, just sits by the door waiting to get out!It is just as though something frightened her in there, and she is still the same today, I just had to carry her back in and she wasn't happy. Not eating properly but then she's done that before - although this time she was eating fine until this incident and it is a very sudden loss of appetite.
Nothing had been moved in the room, and there isn't anything she could have fallen off. Her heated bed is turned off when I leave the house so she couldn't have had an electric shock!
Any ideas???

I'm sorry to hear you are having animal probs again kunuma, but strangely enough a similar thing happened to Rosie a few years ago. I went out and came back in a few hours later and she was in a terrible traumatised state (but had no signs of injury, etc) and was very nervous for months after, and she wouldn't leave the house and go outside for about a year. It certainly sounds like some sort of trauma incident but I never did find out what caused it in Rosie and you may be the same. If its some sort of trauma she will prob start eating again in a day or two. It doesnt sound like a stroke from my experience of animals who have had them but I'm no expert. Not much help I'm afraid but I can't really suggest anything other than what you'll be doing, keeping a close eye on her for the next few days. Rosie did get over whatever happened to her and got back to normal completely hopefully the same will happen with your little mog. Big hug to you and the little one x

Kunuma, my cat reacted in a similar way after our house as struck by lightning. At the time, the children said she didn't react (I wasn't home) but later that night she got really stressed out. It lasted a couple of weeks. Strangely, she is not bothered by thunderstorms and the dog who was outside and very near to where the bolt struck has always loved thunderstorms. But a vacuum cleaner terrifies him. I hope your cat settles soon; I hate not knowing what has upset them.
