Well, I've acquired yet another Clydie model (the same as the one I posted before)... ...and I've also had TWO orders from someone asking if I could paint a couple of models of her Shire horse - one for her, one for her sister. Lucky thing for me I have two such models in stock!

I went up to my gran's this afternoon, and while I was up there I had a look at my horse model collection that I have in storage (or, alternatively, were going to be used in my horse painting business). I found this guy. He's made by a company called Bullyland, and initially I had ideas about painting him to look like Bracken (the ears back pose reminds me of him!), and having another as a "stock" model. However, after looking on eBay and Amazon, it seems the model is no longer available! Looks like he'll have to remain a bay instead of a black!

Darren what are the bullyland models like? I have seen them on the internet but weren't sure how realistic they were in real life. Also what do you think of Safari models ? some i've seen pictures of look a bit shiny and cheap? I love the Schleich models

The Clydie I've got is quite nice (apart from his tail - looks like a melted Flake). I've not seen any other models of theirs, apart from my Angus (see previous post).
I dunno if I've got any other Safari horses (got a couple of Safari sharks, though). My big Clydesdale is, and it looks rather nice.

Hi all you model horse experts - does anyone know if there is a welsh cob mare out there, chestnut with flaxen mane and tail - or indeed any welsh cobs? Seen a few model Welsh ponies (of A and B type).

Seen a few model Welsh ponies (of A and B type). There's definitely a Welsh section A (although not sure if it's a mare or not). I have two of them - painted - in a drawer. I had to paint a Fell pony for a friend. Couldn't find ANYTHING that looked like a Fell, that was to the right scale so it went OK with the other two ponies I'd painted. The only thing that remotely resembled a Fell pony was a FRIESIAN MARE! Well, it didn't look too bad once it was painted!

I think Fell ponies look rather like mini Friesans - so I should think it worked well. Ofcourse, I have now deeply offended all Fell and Friesan fans in one fell swoop. Pardon the pun.

Yes I have seen the A type welshie in the shops but not cobs - but then again I am just starting to collect them and dont know whats out there. Daren painting his models to look like horses he knows got me thinking I should get models which look like my own favourite horses so I'm trying to find one which looks like Chime. Mind you may have trouble with Domino who was a Dales/gypsy cob cross! Lol at the video. I seem to remember from when I was a child there were model pony shows and studs. Looks like its still going on. Don't you just love horsy eccentrics

There is a gypsy cob-type horse model. I know, because I've got one - possibly two - and one that I painted up to look like a Welsh D.
There's actually a horse model show coming up - Utterly Horses is organising one.
I've just got two Shires in the post today for painting up, too!

So I'm not the only one!!! In your last picture Daren I have the palomino Schleich- a Welshie I think. I received a big size Breyer horse when I was a kid and then went I started going to saddlers as an adult and now have HEAPS of Schleichs (they are often in my Christmas stocking from the boys!) and two more Breyers- Zenyatta and a pretty dark brown one in the medium-ish size.
To tell you the truth, our bedroom looks more like how I would've liked my child hood bedroom to look like! Bookcases over flowing with pony books, novels and non fiction, model horse- I have one white Britain that I used to carry to school in my pocket- you can't buy them here now. I've got horse pictures cut from magazines on my wall along with pictures of nature and just stuff that makes me happy. It started as a 'wish wall' when I first started spending more time in bed and has grown! Actually, it started in another house when I was pregnant and scared and then after having Peter I'd want something to stare at to try and keep me awake when I was breastfeeding! In the 1970s those ceramic draught horses with their tack on were EVERYWHERE- they're rare as hen's teeth now.
I'd love to get a Julip but even though I think they're made next door in NZ, they are quite expensive. OH- and I mustn't forget my Breyer 'Ponies gone Wild' (unfortunate title)- I have 2 of them and have been know to put one in my hand bag if I'm anxious about something- it reminds me that I'll get home at the end of the day.

Just read your question Claire, and the one Kunuma has pictured is actually a Dartmoor pony stallion (How sad- I have my 2013 Scleich catalogue out now!). The Dartmoor pony mare is a bay roan. I must have nearly 20 Schleichs and there's only 2 or 3 more I want- some of the newer ones are over the top- braidings etc.
So I've got 2 Traditional and one Classic Breyer- which is a dark bay Hanoverian. I'm impressed by the quality of the accessories-when I was young I'd make my own bridles out of strands of wool!

Two Schleich Shires/Clydies arrived in the mail yesterday - they're destined to be repainted for a woman who owns a bay shire, and an identical model for her sister!

I had a look through my bagged up horse models at my gran's, and ended up taking two other models down the road. I took the rider off my "steroid Clydesdale" and put her on another, and she fits really well - the girth isn't on the last notch this time!!
Will post pictures when I get a chance.
I also put the rug and head collar on the other Clydie and that fits better, too. Result!

Daren I have been looking at that one too, on an Aussie site. He is a Mojo and the size is 15 x 4 x 10.5cm (similar size as Schleich, I think thats about 1.24 scale or there a bouts) Daren, may i say that until you posted your first post about model horses and put up those photos, I knew nothing about model horses (except for the tiny Britains I had as a kid) I am now OBSESSED!!!!!! I have a whole stable planned In one of your pictures where you have a row of horses, second from the right is a dapple grey percheron, do you know what brand it is? Having so much fun on this forum but I'm now poor

I *think* I have a Mojo Clydesdale in the house. He looks nice enough. I believe that Percheron is a Schleich model. IF! IF you ask nicely, I'll let you have it!

I must say the modern Schleichs, Breyers and the like are much more realistic than the older ones like Julip. Actually the Britains ones were probably the most realistic of the lot back in the 1970s, early 80s. That has reminded me, I do have a few other model horses tucked away in an attic somewhere which I had about 30 years or so ago, they weren't a very well known make so not sure what type they were. I wish I knew where they were so I could have a look at them (and maybe a little play with them lol) If I ever come across them will put photos on here and see if anyone can identify them.

Most of the ones I have look good up close.
While we're on the subject, does anyone know what I could use to strip acrylic paint off a painted horse model??

I remember a toy horse I had as a kid be about late 70's or early 80's I gess had moving legs had a girl rider one was a brown or bay with a brown haired rider and the outher was a blond rider I think the horse was palomino but may off been a gray. Was trying to refund one on net so fare no luck the riders had shoulder leath hair forn Jodhs a shirt and tie was thinking some sort off pony club toy remember the horse moved and looked more lifelike than my friends Sindy posable toy horse but maybe that was just me.

Hi Trixie, I had 2 toy horses like that, one was palomino and the other was I think bay and a girl rider who was called Anna. (There was also a boy rider but I only had the girl). Their legs did move, the Sindy horses didn't which is why I wanted these instead. I wonder if these were the same ones you had? Crikey I had forgotten all about them. I've probably got them stashed away somewhere too. Off to have a search for them on the net... EDIT Wow actually found them on the net (see link below). Anna's horse was indeed bay and called Happytime, the boy rider was called Peter and his horses was the palomino which was called Sundancer. The toys were endorsed with the name of Anne Moore, a top showjumper back in the day. www.modelhorsegallery.info/p/p-companies/mhcs_pedigree.html
