Does anyone else collect them? I do, and naturally the focus of my collection is the Clydesdale. I've got a good selection from the main manufacturers, although one of two have been custom-painted to look like horses I've ridden in the past. I got a model rider in the post this morning and, eventually, managed to mount her on one of my Clydesdale models. Looks pretty good, actually!

That's a nice one Daren. I did collect them as a child. I had a riding stable laid out on a table in my bedroom and used to collect the horses that had "real" manes and tails. I can never remember what the makers name was. Not the ones with the bendy legs anyway.

I had a few as a child but mainly the small Britains ones. I had some bigger ones which I loved can't recall the make, not one of the well known ones but they were nice cos you got little saddles and bridles made of real leather. Were the bendy one Julip? I always wanted them but they were too expensive for my poverty stricken childhood lol. I'd like to collect them again but its finding the room. I've got a couple of Beswick ones and some other china horses and a couple of Schleich ones. My friend just bought me a Schleich for my birthday, its either a Shire or Clydesdale but I've decided to make it a Clydesdale as I wanted to call it Clyde I think Garej is a big model horse collector. There's some pics of her model horses elsewhere on here - maybe she can find the thread for us. Hmmm I may make a separate section on the forum for horsy toys, games, models etc.

I have collected them for years, mostly Britains, like Claire, but I have the lead ones as well as the plastic ones. I did have loads of Beswick but they got sold to feed the real ones!Got a few Schlich now and some others - house too small to have them on display unfortunately, I collect dog and cat ones too of course!
Think it says quite a lot about my approach to life that I always threw the riders away!!! I collected the rare cowboy and indian and soldier ones too, and if I hadn't chucked all the riders of those away they would be worth a fortune now! I took off all the tack too and turned them all into wild horses!

I have over 100 Julips, some Magpie Models, some breyers (I have all scales), one Schleich, two Peter Stones all in the bookcase in the bedroom. I will post them all, but I will probably take over the thread. I have some generic horses and Britain's from my childhood.
I have approx 6 Beswicks and two china Shire horses in the living room. One china shire horse used to belong to my nana before she died, and the other china shire horse was given to me by my mum's friend.

I added another Clydie (shock, horror!) to my collection just the other day - from Collecta this time, and he's quite a bit bigger than any of the others.
If anyone's interested I'll post up some pics of mine at some point.
I never thought of including horse ornaments to the post - I have a few of them, too!

Which ones were the bendy ones garej do you know? I can only think of Julip which had bendy legs. Most model horse manufacturers had horses which had fixed postions. I received a new Julip this morning.

It was the Magpie models I used to have. But when I collected them in the 70s they were called "Dream Ponies". I had the Arab models in different colours. They really were nicely made

Well, here are my "display" models. Schleich Clydesdale mare and, possibly, CollectA Clydesdale stallion. Both custom-painted. Sally (bay) and Bracken. CollectA Clydesdale and Schleich show-jumper set. That saddle JUST fits...! Mojo Clydesdale and Schleich headcollar/rug set. Yes, that rug's a bit on the small side! Angus from the movie BRAVE. He really should be black, not dark grey. Rare to see this one! CollectA(?) Clydesdale stallion. This is the "stock" version of the Bracken model - i.e. unpainted. Schleich Shire/Clydesdale stallion. I've got two of these, so one of them will no doubt end up repainted. The latest one: CollectA blue roan Clydie stallion. There's also a bay version. Schleich and CollectA stallions - quite a size difference! Schleich Clydesdale mare (Sally) and Safari Clydesdale - only seen the big one occasionally. Not cheap, but a nice model. I've got a stash of models up at my gran's, some of which I intended to paint up for others - so there's even more to be photographed! Like this one, for example...

For a wee while last year, I custom-painted model horses for those interested (and for a small charge!). My wee enterprise worked OK - when people paid for the models! Anyway, here's a few of the ones which I was going to use. I actually ended up keeping some of them myself! Stock Schleich Clydesdale mare (blue roan) to the right of the picture. Compare it to the "Sally" model in the first picture in my last post.

Some of my "stock": From left to right - Clydesdale stallion, Thoroughbred, Shire, Gypsy cob, Clydesdale stallion x2, Clydesdale mare, Welsh Section A, Percheron, Clydesdale stallion. I'm pretty sure that most of these are still in storage!

Wow they are lovely. I like the stallions. Many moons ago I use to paint models, not horses mores the pity!

Did I spot a unicorn amongst the gang? I collect unicorns and pegasuses/ pegasi too - but they have to be white ones! Somehow I feel that the breed standard for them stated that they must be white! lol My Schleich models are amazing, they even have proper little horse shoes on their feet - my latest one though is a little chocolate labrador! The thread inspired me to find my little models and play with them - there were another couple of good model makers back in the 60s and 70s, Timpo and Cherilea. I've got the most gorgeous set of farm animals too, one for each make, the little cats, rabbits and chickens are so tiny yet so well modelled, though I think the best is a Friesan bull from the 70's who even still has his nose ring!

Lol kunuma actually in the first pic the little grey one does look a bit like it has a horn as you can only really see one white ear sticking up.
Fantastic collection Daren! You must have a lot of patience to customise them. I have the Schleich stally you have 2 of - I'd be really interested to see what it looks like if you paint one of them.

Some of them are easier than others - one roan Shire had me totally flummoxed, though, and I gave up on him! I'll need to retrieve the Schleich stallions from storage and have one stock, one painted. I got a couple of scruffy-looking models from eBay some time back. No idea of their make, but they're the same model and in need of some TLC.
