Dark Sunshine was a good read (although I read it ages ago so do not remember it well).
Can we play guess the book, Susan? :-)

LOL...you can try! Only hint I'll give is that you shouldn't focus on the Christmas bit....like most pony books, unless you've actually read it, it's unlikely you'd realize that there are Christmas chapters.

I'm game, fizz...which one? I've got most, except for the donkey one. I just packed a spare of Horses in the Glen off to Rally, so she could join in if we did that one (and if she's got time from taking care of her real-life horse!).

Great Susan, I'm in for Dark Sunshine, I had just reordered my TBR pile and guess what was on the top? Dark sunshine ready to go!
Would love to do a Gillian Baxter for the May read, would love The stables at Hampton but happy to go with whatever most people have copies of?
For July is a Marjorie Reynolds title doable? or are they too expensive?

Brumby, glad you're going to do Dark Sunshine with us....seems like it's going to be a good size group!
I think the only Reynolds title that had a UK printing was Keep a Silver Dollar, copies seem to be running about £8. I'm game, cause I've got them all.
Only thing is that the summer reading challenge starts in July.....maybe we could run them together, Claire? People could count the reading circle book as one of their challenge books if they were doing the challenge, or could just do the reading circle if they wanted to?

Stables at Hampton is the one that I don't have, nor the ones for little children. Her books have been very much messed up in the editing process. Those reading a original will have a very different experience to those reading the Green Dragon or Granada editions.

I know Kunuma wanted to do Airs Above the Ground by Mary Stewart some time - so if you're around Kunuma do you want to nominate that one for May read? Or Stables at Hampton for whoever nominated it? I'm losing track!
For those of you who dont know it an adult story with Lippizaner interest.

Last two copies of Dark Sunshine arrived yesterday, posted all five to you, Claire, this morning! Less good news (for me, anyway)...I dug out my copy of Airs Above the Ground (it's the UK first edition)....the print is so small! Sob! I noticed earlier this year that I'd actually started picking books from my tbr pile based on print size Old age creeping up on me! (Well, really, I think it has pounced already ). Anyway, I've got an appointment with optometrist this Saturday, so when/if I join in for May will depend on how quickly they can get me sorted with new glasses. On the up side, I'll be able to dive into all that tiny print this summer

I feel your pain Susan. My close sight seemed to deteriorate almost overnight last year. I've found myself having to get the magnifying glass out a few times! I'll have to make a visit to the optician soon too. I think one of the reasons I like Kindle books now is that I can make the text as big as I want. Anyway hope you get your specs sorted in time.

If anyone knows Fizz off the board can you let her know I'm waiting to post the Mandrake to her but she forgot to give me her surname - I could post it without (do you think that it would get there OK??) or if anyone knows her surname can you pm me and I'll post it off asap.

In the US, if you've got the address right, it doesn't matter who it's addressed to....could be Mickey Mouse for all they care. (Of course, in the UK, you might need to go for Winnie-the-Pooh ) After all, Mickey (or Winnie) might be a guest of yours, getting their mail there for a week, a month, the summer...whatever.

Had my optometrist appointment this morning...holy cow! I had no idea "progressive lenses" cost so much! Back when my mother wore them, and they were called bi-focals, they were a bit more expensive than regular lenses....now they're "progressive", which seems to mean they've "progressed" from petty larceny to highway robbery! Anyway, one pair of specs and a pair of non-progressive prescription sunglasses and I'm down $950. Gulp. Oh well...they said they'd try to rush them, so I may be able to read Airs Above the Ground next weekend....fingers crossed! Will be a good test/training for using the new script. One way or the other, I know what I'm doing this summer....sitting around, not spending any money, reading all those books with text that was formerly too tiny!

I guess you are meaning what we refer to as "varifocals" over here. And they are hugely expensive too! I can't get on with the things, I feel like I have permanent motion sickness. I'm sure you'll be fine, most people seem to have no problems, just me being a wuss as usual. Wish I could wear them, it's a pain not being able to see the computer screen properly and having it stuck right in front of my nose and habving to take my glasses off to read close up. Ho Hum.

I thought it was just me!! Can't get on with these damn varifocals at all and driving is a total nightmare - can't read signs or occasionally even see cars!! Plus just like you, I have to take my glasses off to read or look at anything closely! I only have a portable TV, and I sit literally three feet in front of it and still I can't read any writing on the screen. Mind you, friend has one of those lovely HUGE sets and I can read that from across the room!

Gah! Now you two are scaring the pants off me! What if I can't get used to them? Soooo much money down the drain I can see distance and as close as computer with the regular glasses I have now...it's just books with fine print (like this month's read) and my embroidery that are problems now....why do I feel like I'm going to be going from the frying pan to the fire

*high five* Kunuma!
Susan I'm sure you'll be fine. You just have to give it time for your brain to get used to them. It also matters that they are fitted correctly too as even just slightly wrong and they can cause trouble. I've tried on four separate occasions over the years and each time I've got my money back when I've said I can't get on with them so hopefully it'll be the same for you.
My mother wears them and it took her about a week to adjust. Some people walk out of the shop and have no trouble at all! Grrrr!
