Hi all, Susan talking about wrapping her Christmas presents on another thread - and my mum talking about someone who has had everything wrapped up and ready since September - has got me wondering how everyone on the forum is doing with their Christmas shopping and preparations? Are you mega-organized or the sort who runs round the shops on Christmas Eve? I keep saying to myself that next year I will be more organized but every year it seems to sneak up on me, its like one day its the end of summer and then you blink and its 6 weeks to Christmas!

I've got all but one present wrapped...that last one is on order, due on Wednesday. BUT....I also have three January birthdays to do....still have one present coming (due Wednesday too) and one left to buy. So...total of three presents left to go. And, you know, anybody I hadn't planned on getting a present for who turns up with one for me. I hate that.
AND....lest you think I'm Miss Mega-Organized....I only just ordered Christmas cards yesterday....I'll be going nuts trying to get them all written and mailed long after everyone here is completely done.
btw, if you lived in the US, Christmas would never sneak up on you....the stores start beating you about the head with a Christmas tree before Halloween. Seriously. I once left buying Halloween candy for the trick-or-treaters a bit late and when I got to the store all they had were chocolate Santas!!

Its actually the same here now - the record for seeing Christmas stuff in the shops was August in one shop!!! I think thats actually the reason it creeps up on you - you get so used to seeing all the Christmas things in the shops for months you sort of switch off about it.

Ba humbug from me HATE it! Blasted Christmas records on the radio already Lol must admit I am turning more Scrooge-like each year too. I hate Christmas music playing in the shops. Its the same 3 or 4 tracks everywhere you go. Mind you I think without Christmas the winter would just seem interminable - at least it gives you something to occupy November and December and distracts you from how bloomin awful winter is.

There is some book from the 1990's or so about keeping the holidays simple. I was checking out reviews of it on amazon, and one reviewer said his (gender was specified) strategy was to only celebrate every other year. He really did it up big, but only on alternate years. He said that gave him enough time in between to get excited again about all the decorating, shopping, cooking, etc. I don't think that would work for me but I thought it was an intriguing idea!

Sounds an interesting idea. My own idea (which unfortunately has never been adopted) is that our family circle celebrate Christmas a week later than normal so that we can get all the presents in the sales and save loads of money - not to mention it being quieter in the shops and the stuff that you buy on-line which never turns up on time for Christmas would actually have arrived! I have at last got a few presents now!
