Hi follks, continuing on the top 10s of popular authors, how about your fav JMB books?
My fav Jackie one is 10 Ponies and Jackie, I like the Pippa books, especially Pippa's Mystery Horse and I also like Sue's Circus Arab and Ponies All Summer and The Ponies Next Door. Not sure whether I'll just put up the series for Jackie, Pippa, etc rather than inidividual books as there are that many Jackie ones. Depends if many people have specific Jackie titles they really like rather than the series per se.

My favourite of the Jackie books is Jackie won a pony. I do like Timber the Story of a Horse

I liked Timber, too!
Also Ponies Next Door, which is probably my favorite of her books. Liked Sue's Circus Horse and Ponies all Summer,
There are several of hers that I haven't read yet.....I've never done any of the Pippa books, Nobody's Pony or Pony Forest Adventure
Why? 'Cause they're hard to find and expensive, and as much as I've enjoyed some of her books, others have left me cold: Trouble at Ponyways, Colt in the Family, Red Rocket, all the Jackies that I've read.....you get the picture....hard to spend money on something that could go either way!

Jackie Won a Pony (all the rest except for Jackie and the Pony Trekkers get annoying after a while), Sue's Circus Horse, Nobody's Pony, that is about it.
I have yet to read Timber, Ponies Next Door, Five Foals and Phillipa, despite owning them.
The Family Series I find boring, Pippa is marginally better than the Jackie series (but saying that I dont own the complete series), but still not brilliant. Sue's TV Pony is ok but not as good as the previous two in the series. Ponies All Summer is alright, but not as good as the first in the series IMO. Trouble at Ponyways is another ok one.
I have read her two cats ones (The Far From Home Cats and The Cats of Winkle Bay), plus Daffodil Island (non pony one) and tbh I enjoyed them more than any of her pony books!! I think her skill lies more in writing about other animals than pony ones and again tbh I would prefer to try a dog story that buy (except for the ones that complete my Pippa series) another pony one.

Trouble At ponyways is my fave of hers and a childhood favourite to boot.
I also really like Jackie and the Missing Show jumper (yet another childhood fave), the Pippa series...like Claire mystery horse is prob my favourite and mystery ponies the least. I also like Ponies all Summer and Sue's Circus horse.

To me, Timber almost seems to have been written by a different author. I quite enjoyed it tho not one of my favs.
The Jackie ones can get grating if you read too many of them at once (I read the whole series bar the last one in one go a few years back in order to clear up discrepancies in the number order of the books and find the true chronological order.) If you read them once in a while they are quite enjoyable. I find the Pippa series is more balanced having a boy main character as well and also there is less of the men/boys getting annoyed with 'pony girls' which is one of the things that gets a bit grating in the Jackie ones.
The 'Family' series is definitely the worst of the lot.
I haven't read the cat ones but I have read some of the dog ones (Skipper & Taff) which I enjoyed.

The 'Family' series is definitely the worst of the lot. Oh yes I definitely agree with that. She is trying to blend in instructional stuff with a pony story, but the way she does it, doesnt read too great. I feel like I am attending a lecture and it gets in the way of the story. Yet with JPT (who did the same thing basically) it doesnt feel that way. All I can say is thankfully Judith Berrisford only wrote 3 of them, imagine if she wrote a whole load? Now that would be unbearable (even worse than Jackie!).

I shudder at the thought garej! I have read 5 foals and Philippa and tbh its the same story as Jackie and the Pony Rivals, although longer and in more detail and actually better/more enjoyable. Two girls go to an aunts stud, there is a horsebox accident and the aunt is injured and they look after stud, there is a rival stud owner trying to do them down, rich Americans coming to view the ponies, they even rescue a circus horse called Moonlight in both books! The story has basically been re-hashed and shortened for the Jackie book and set in Scotland instead of Wales. The main characters are obviously not Jackie and Babs tho!

I like the pony trekking ones in the Jackie series best, and also the first few. I also like the "Sue" books, although I have yet to read the last one in the series, Trouble at Pony Ways and the first 3 Pippa ones. I'm not too keen on a Pony In the Family either.

I like the pony trekking ones in the Jackie series best, and also the first few. I like Jackie and The Pony Trekkers too, but I am not sure it's because of the fact I am familar with the area Judith Berrisford based it on (there was until about 5 years ago a real life Pinewoods. There is too many coincidences for Judith Berrisford not to use the real places in her books).
