To be fair, I don't think the photo stories ran that often. They were probably more expensive to produce in comparison to a standard article. They often had an educational bent- I remember one about a girl's first visit to a riding school, and you were supposed to look out for the warning signs that it wasn't reputable ie the hack leader was wearing lots of rings....
I think there was a regular short comic strip similar to Garfield about a longsuffering woman and her naughty pony, which was called The Niffer or something like that.
I've remembered another serial story, called Sandy's Pony, in which Sandy neglected her pony because she succumbed to the teen horrors of LIPSTICK and BOYS. Pan the pony escaped and got injured while she was out clubbing. However it all ended well as her new boyfriend decided he wanted to learn to ride....

They often had an educational bent- I remember one about a girl's first visit to a riding school, and you were supposed to look out for the warning signs that it wasn't reputable ie the hack leader was wearing lots of rings.... Certainly in the mid-late 1990s they [the photo stories] were in every issue, though some where 2-parters. I am not sure (unless I find them) about the H&P monthly ones or any prior to that date however. Pony always had them however. I had a look in Tesco's at I love Ponies. It costs £1.99 but I did not buy it as the ponies was a (horrible) shade of pink. It says "now with Twilight Ponies", which seems to be an excuse for painting them bright garish colours instead of normal horsey ones, as next month you get a purple one! Twilight Ponies are, btw, an horse toy which is along the lines of My Little Pony. So that put me off as I wanted a normal pony colour as it would not look right with the Breyers! Anyway, I had a look through and the "exciting stories" are a short text ones, and the same reading ability (as in big letters with spaces between the sentences) as the Ponies Forever magazine. I went to Olympia in 1996 and I went to the Horse and Pony magazine stall they had there. For the cost of a normal magazine I remember getting a free copy of Samantha Alexander's Will to Win (which I had for free earlier on that year) and then having a go at this big spinning wheel, which also you won something. Unfortunately mine went on a minor prize so I ended up with a stencil (which also had come free previously that year). I also had a Horse and Pony magazine rosette which was not free and my mother had to pay extra for (£2.50 I remember correctly). I have that somewhere too.

Hi sorry just seen this thread so copied my question below from my post on the welcome forum.
Hi all I had no idea this forum existed! I am trying to find out which magazine I used to get in the 1990's, I am guessing it was Pony Magazine or Your Pony (can't remember the changeover date) and inside was a cartoon series about a girl with blonde hair I think riding a solid light grey mare with white mane and tail and found a "Ghost horse" who was black. The last episode I remember reading, showed the ghost horse encouraging the mare to jump over a ravine or something, the background was an orange/red/yellow colour and I can't remember if it was to escape a fire or something.
Anyone who understands my waffling and knows which magazine and ideally issue's would be amazing!
Thank you in advance!

I did read Pony Magazine but stopped before the 1990s so unfortunately I can't help with the query. Does anyone else have an idea of which magazine this was in?

For anyone who is interested in horse comics/comic strips there are 2 new related publications (e-book/web only) : Lucky Horse Comic and Lucky Horse Magazine these contain comic strips, short stories and photo stories plus some non-fic articles, videos, etc. Even better they can be read for free via the magazine's own websites/app. You can view them on-line or download an app for your smartphone or tablet. You just need to register on the site. The mag is available in 5 languages, although I don't think English was the first language as the UK version has a few odd words !
