Great pics sarah. We have quite a few training gallops round here too. There was actually an advert in the paper for an exercise rider for one of the racing stables....if only! Some of the flat racers are quite small, especially if they are 2 year olds.

Lovely pics Sarah.
Can anyone tell me what the leather thing is called on the horses bridle going down the centre of his face and what it is for? (in the pic with the woman with the red hair)

I didn't recognise any of those horses, but I'm not sure of any of my favourite flat stars from last year are still in training.
Never seen headgear like that- thought the horse might be being scoped (long tube into windpipe to see if there is excess mucus in the lungs- sign of early infection so the horse would be rested rather than raced). Or might be the equivalent of a peak flow meter to monitor strength of breathing after exercise?
The Horseracing Museum in Newmarket is worth a look if you're interested. Loved the examples of fanmail posted simply to "Arkle, Ireland" that still got delivered.

Thanks foxglove, it does look like some sort of medical equipment.....and I've just seen Sarah's comment above the picture, I missed that this morning, too busy gawping at the weird headgear

Nice pictures but ow! The shortness of their stirrups makes my knees hurt just looking at them!
