LOL, yes, regardless of what #2 is, Sarah has an incredible collection!
:-) And yes, I did know #21. Grin..in fact, between what I knew before, and figured out with Sarah's clues, I know four more...and that's without leaving the armchair to check the shelves

LOL...not hardly, as I said, just a good visual memory and, (probably a very strong contributing factor), time spent staring at those lovely picture ponies, willing them to come alive and jump off the cover! :-)

No 2 is not Question Mark nor The Lord Mayor's Show. I think I've seen somewhere it is non-fiction but it read like fiction to me.

Ooo...I've not read any of Vian Smith's non-fiction, (I lean more towards fiction).....can you tell us more about it please, Sarah, once the id is confirmed?

28 is Jump Shy by Joan Houston, cover art by Sheila Rose
This one had me stumped before your clue....I was sure it was one of the Mary Gernat Amarda covers! The flecks of white between the horse's black head and the blue sky seemed like a giveaway, but were really a red herring.
Even with the clue, it took a while to figure out....which, when you consider that the UK edition of this book is the one I own, is pretty embarassing. But when I stopped to add up the number of American authors with one UK printing, I was surprised at how many there were....Jean Slaughter Doty (Can I Get There By Candlelight?), Nancy Caffrey (Pony Duet), Marjorie Reynolds (Keep a Silver Dollar), Patsey Gray (Challenger), Lavinia Davis (Plough Penny Mystery), William Corbin (Horse in the House), Genevieve Torrey Eames (Horse to Remember), Dorothy Lyons (Golden Sovereign), DVS Jackson (Bold Venture/The Bluebird)....whew! And those are only the ones I know of....there could easily be many, many more I haven't encountered yet!

Oops - I feel really embarrassed - I got muddled up with the Point-to-Point books - my one was Ivor Herbert's book ( also known as Longacre). SORRY! That aside I really enjoyed Point-to-Point. I saw this copy and fell for the cover art and was really pleased with the content. (Now my memory is going to fail me - like Susan I have a good visual memory - especially for pony pictures)!!! This is what I remember: It was the story of a pair of siblings who got the chance to train a horse the father had bred.

15 is Golden Cloud by Leland Silliman (I see it around all the time, since it had a paperback printing with the same cover art, but haven't yet picked up a copy...is it worthwhile?)
LOVE the cover for Point to Point!! I have the US edition but, while it has Biegel's internal illustrations, it has different (and completely awful) cover art. Why, WHY, did they mess with perfection!!!

You know i thought i recognised the Point to Point pic but couldnt reconcile it to any Vian Smith edition! No wonder! 7 is Ponies at Westways by Constance M. White, another book where a kid is deserted by parents abroad! I dismissed this one a while back as I didnt recognise the pic but then I just remembered it had another less common edition!

I know 4, 10, 12 and 13 so far....
But MOST importantly, with Sarah's clue, I finally figured out 5, which has been driving me nuts for days!
It's New Horse for Marny by Libby Anderson....I have the paperback from Half Halt Press, which has completely different cover art. Shortly after I bought it (about 4 years ago), a copy of the hardcover was on ebay, located in Australia....I think I stared at that listing for a week, but couldn't justify what it, plus postage, would have run me, when I'd only just bought the paperback!
Sarah, could you post the full pic, please? Would love to see it again (someday I'll replace that pb!!)

Claire...very impressive pinpointing the title, given the misdirection on the author!
Sad though that we still haven't seen the cover art for Question Mark :-(

Hehe susan it was purely accidentally as it was a guess at Vian Smith's Point to Point! As you know the others I'll go for 12. Its Sam Savitts True Horse Stories. I might have had a guess at that one before the 2nd clue but that gave it away. I have never heard of no. 5! Just when you think you know all the authors another one pops up!

Don't suppose you could post a picture of the paperback - think it has an impressive drawing of a horse jumping on it. Golden Cloud was a pleasant enough read - it made me mildly curious to read the other book he wrote but not so keen that I have bought it yet!

More clues:
13 - She wrote 3 books under this name and written many others under another name (maybe as many as 1 a year).
18 - male author - R.M. or R.B.M. He wrote a cowboy series under another name. This is the story of a little boy who is sent to stay on a farm in Somerset.
20 - author female - K.M.
23 - author female - M.S.W. Some children work together to save Foxglove the horse.
24 - author female - P.L. Features a highland pony (but no chestnut arabs)!
25 - author female - H.B. A tale of a rescued pony and a camping trip

Grin...very clever using a K.M. Peyton book that she wrote before she was married....the initials KMP would have been a dead giveaway!

The book that's under your nose is always the one you forget....garej listed Great Heart by C.W. Anderson in the Valentine quiz...when I read her post I realized that I was literally looking at a copy...four feet away, facing me, and didn't think of it!
Re Horse for Marny....isn't that horse's head lovely? Is it any wonder it's haunted my memory for years :-)
