Just got back from Suffolk where the snow was very pretty (pretty cold as well)!!! Drove past Newmarket and saw horses out with no rugs - brrr. Who said thoroughbreds were wimps!

I'm still stuck!! The frozen snow from Saturday is still untouched by gritters on the road here, and it's not thawed today either!! At least I am stuck at home and not in a tunnel somewhere, but all the same - it's not like the gritters have much to do the rest of the time, I don't see why they don't put in an appearance for their moment of glory when it comes. Four days and still no sign of them seems a bit much!

They are really on the ball here with the snow, gritters everywhere and tractors with grit or shovels on all the smaller roads and housing estates too! We are running better than some of the big cities!
Just been out for a longish walk today with my camera taking some pics. It really is like a winter wonderland here. But I still hope it melts soon so nobody is snowed in over christmas.
BTW what do people's animals think of the snow? Its funny how most dogs love it and most cats hate it. Rosie was not amused by it, especially when she was trying to have a wee in the garden and fell into a snowdrift!

I saw on the news today that you guys are getting your share of the snow this year....I hope everyone digs out and de-ices in time for Christmas!
It's hard when you live in an area that doesn't tend to get much snow and ice, because the equipment to deal with it is expensive, and it's generally not worth investing in if you only get walloped one winter in a dozen....Washington, D.C. shuts down totally when they get 3 inches, while in Massachusetts 6 inches is known as " a dusting"!

lol Claire poor Rosie. Bless.. My dogs love the snow and go nuts despite having short legs.. ;D I put equafleeces on them and they stay dry as it keep the moisure on the outside so they don't get cold.. Still not got proper snow but its -5 and lethal.

-7C here right now (-13C with the windchill), but that's not really considered all that cold for Massachusetts. It has to get to the single digits in Fahrenheit for anyone here to admit that it's d*mn cold...so about -13C without windchill. And compared to what they get in Canada, that's nothing....I know people who went up for the Winter Carnival a few years back, and the WARMEST day was -18C. Brrrr........

I just don't get the weather! It's been minus -5 today and now it's pouring with rain. I thought it would be snowing but no, its rain! So if it freezes tonight how lovely the roads will be

Raining here in Herts as well - paths and ungritted roads are like ice rinks now.

I went to see my mum today, she lives about an hours drive away from me. On my way there the roads were a bit slippy and the fog froze my washers and wipers which was a big pain in the bum but omg thejourney back was horrid. After 15 mins driving it started to rain, freezing on the road then it turned to snow that was settling on the road and looked like warp speed as it was dark, visibility was bad! I really thought I was going to have to abandon the car but luckily I managed to crawl home. It shook me up a bit but after dithering at home for a while, I am quite excited about the couple of inches of snow we got in an hour - sledging tomorrow! only trouble is I've got to brave the roads tomorrow morn as our water has froze and so has the ponies so I've got to get the water butts out and hope the roads aren't too bad!

Evil ice!!! Nothing is worse...snow is ok, as is rain, but ice is so treacherous.....everyone drive carefully!!! (And walk carefully too...no broken bones for the New Year!)

We seem ok down here in Cornwall - keep off the roads before about 11, and everything's melting and you've got until about 4, then it freezes again. Haven't seen a single gritter all week Hope you're all coping alright

I had a scare driving this morning I live on top of a hill and my road was sheet ice at the bottom. I ended up not being able to stop and careering out onto the main road. Luckily for me nothing was coming as I ended up spinning across the other side of the road. It shook me up and I felt quite shaky afterwards

Rosie, that's enough to shake anyone up! I hope you're feeling better now.....I have to admit, I'd be shaking for a few days :-(

Thanks susan. We've decided to stay at home for christmas day now. It's a two hour drive to my family and they've had it worse than us. I don't think I want anymore sliding on the ice episodes! Hopefully we'll make it for boxing day instead.

Sounds like a good idea....much better to stay safe!! (And two hours with your heart in your mouth is no way to spend Christmas!).
Hope you have a very Merry Christmas and I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for you for Boxing Day!

I still can't get my car out!! It started to thaw today, and where the neighbours' park is clear, the other side of the building, but not in my garden! I got the car doors open, then it started to ice up again once the sun moved at midday, and now I can't get near the car to shut the doors, just been out there trying again, but still can't get across the ice to the car - crazy! Moral of the story, don't live in a deep valley!!

Just when I thought it might be going, been snowing again last night! Also a great big lump of snow and ice has fallen from the house on top of my car hope it hasnt left a dent! Here are some pics of Richmond in the snow which I took the other day in an energetic fit! The houses in this pic are at the back of my little cul-de-sac. You cant actually see my house cos its behind them. This is the river and watefall: And these were taken in the parkland by the river. You can just see the castle in the background of the pic below: It was getting a bit dark by then maybe I should take some more when its bright and sunny!
