Lovely pics sarah. Is that a stream running thru their field or have you just had a surfeit of rain like us?
I bet you are looking forward to the school hols!

Lovely horses, look at that amazing dappled dun - they look in good condition too - do they belong to a stud?

Oh yes - rain/rain/rain!!! It is basically a big puddle in their field. The piebald was pawing and splashing away but by the time I got my camera out he had calmed down a bit.
Not sure who they belong to - feet are not very well looked after. But they get hay in the winter so there is someone keeping an eye on them.
In previous years there have been foals as well :-)

My friend has finally found the cable to upload some of the pics took on phone on our walks. We came across this herd of Shetlands half way up the side of a fell in early spring this year, they needed their woolly coats up there! Warning - contains scenes of a sexual nature!!! ;D

Visited my parents in Dorset in June, and we went to the Heavy Horse Centre (http://www.dorset-heavy-horse-centre.co.uk/?oo=0). It's right out in the sticks but worth visiting- my parents aren't remotely horsey, but enjoyed it. We saw a harnessing demonstration, which was really interesting, and the guy explained lots of things I'd never thought of before- like the difference between driving a 2 and 4 wheeled vehicle. He also said the best harness in the world is now made by the Amish, and that he now rates Percherons as the best all-round heavy horses, as they can be ridden and jumped as well as drive passengers and big loads. Apparently the French government are a lot more supportive and pro-active in protecting the rare breeds over there. Not a "heavy horse" but very cute! It also acted as a rescue centre- this jaunty skewbald definitely wanted to come home with me.... They also did talks on romany culture which were revealing.

How did I missed seeing these? Lovely photos foxglove, I so want to go there now. They have Percherons at the National Trust Carriage Museum, Arlington Court in Devon. I'd recommend a visit there if anyone's in the area.

I dunno how I missed it either rosie!
Very nice pics. I think I visited there too many years ago, altho it may have been somewhere different in the same area. There's quite a few heavy horse centres in the south west (or there was).

I work in central London. I see police horses occasionally, and a couple of times army horses as I work near the Hyde Park Barracks.
Last week, I saw two regular horses being ridden by girls in velvet crash caps, immaculate tweed jackets and johdpurs right down Exhibition Road (a busy road with a university and three tourist-rammed museums) towards South Kensington tube station. I can't imagine where they were going- just hope the horses were good in traffic.
This morning I saw a similarly attired girl riding a squeaky bicycle along the same road. Starting to wonder if I'm hallucinating through reading so many pony books?!

They are rather super-lookers! That chestnut is a smasher with those four white socks and lovely face markings

Yeah there's some gorgeous horseflesh around there with all the racing yards with their TBs and a few hacks, I think these lot were from James Bethell's yard.
