Checked in on the herd late last night, coming back from a meeting, so wouldn't normally have been there and found my Rob Horse all colickly. Not bad, but had to get the vet cos it was already really late and I couldn't hang on for a while and see how he went. And, time vet got there, he was much better. For which I'm grateful. Ni idea what caused it; he's been in that field with 2 mares and 2 geldings for 7 monthes now. Same feed - big bale haylage, dredge corn and high fibre cubes - since I brought him 6 years ago. No excercise for the past week because of the snow and ice, and wormed up to his eyeballs. Vet had no idea why. But it took about 10 years off my life - I'm used to Rob trying to kill himself, but he's never tried colic before. (Once was getting stuck in a bog on a long distance trail ride, once was getting blackthorn in his eye, and the 3rd was collapsing under sedation with a tooth rasp in - he's a rescue and phobic about his mouth - leading to a fractured jaw. ) I swear, horses will be the death of me. And the making of my vet's bank balance. Call out charges are Still, I'm so glad he's well. Who else thinks we could find a less stressful hobby?

Poor you, glad he's okay. I had my first ever experience of Colic a few months back - like yours only a very mild case when he was low from a virus but all the same not something I ever want to experience again. On a brighter note I got a cheque from insurance for mine yesterday but bet I get another exclusion on his policy

Poor you Snowfilly, thank god he got better. It sounds like Rob knows how to get your attention! These horses certainly keep us on our toes!

Glad he recovering snowfilly. He sounds a real character! Only had it once with a Sheltand I was looking after. A mild case luckily and she was OK, lived to kick me quite a few more times

Thanks for the wishes everyone! Pleased to report he's up, fine, and did 9 miles with me last weekend to the beach and back. Would have galloped but Rob and sand are a pretty lethal mix.
Horses, honestly...
