Hi all just been sent this by a friend. If you havent seen it elsewhere could you check it out? Could you all sign this petition which extends the 7 days that pounds have to keep strays before having them put to sleep to 28 days. If this gets passed it wil help thousands of animals to be reunited with their owners and save millions of lives. petitions.number10.gov.uk/28DAYSLENIENCY/?showall=1

It is a good idea, I have known of too many cases where dogs were put to sleep while their owners were still looking for them, even though ALL the right people had been informed!

Thanks guys, yes it is needed. Can you imagine the heartbreak if you managed to track down your beloved lost pet only to find it had just been put to sleep?

Thanks guys, yes it is needed. Can you imagine the heartbreak if you managed to track down your beloved lost pet only to find it had just been put to sleep? Yes. Though I must point out that it is a good idea to have it microchipped - legally all microchipped animals (not just dogs) must be kept for 28 days if the owner does not contact the finder (or the details are out of date). After that 28 days the rescue charity can either rehome it or have it destroyed. Most animal charities (certainly the main ones, such as Cats Protection, RSPCA, Dogs Trust etc) microchip their animals before leaving their care, and it costs anything between £15-30 (it depends because there are different companies out there) to get it done at a vet.
