OMG can't believe it but am moving house yet again in 4 weeks time!!! Was having so many probs with my cottage, damp and mould and constantly cold, that the rental agents found me another house. They take pets and it is in the town (Richmond) where I want to be, rather than in a village in the middle of nowhere. Trouble is I had to make my mind up straight away as houses in Richmond are snapped up straight away, so hope I made the right decision. Its another big expense what with the removals and everything so I guess I wont be going on holiday for a while still Moving house is supposed to be one of the most stressful times in your life and this will be the 3rd time I've done it in less than a year! It's a wonder my head hasn't exploded by now!

I think you need a gypsy caravan and an Irish cob Claire, then you could save on moving expenses and just travel around Yorkshire! ;D ;D You will have moved twice while I am still house hunting!!

I think you need a gypsy caravan and an Irish cob Claire, I'll second that or have you ever considered a hippy bus? Good luck with the move we're always here if you need to have a moan about removal men etc - or you might get a fit one

OOh would love a gypsy caravan with a big hairy piebald cob! (But dont tell konstanze)
Getting a bit nervous now as it was all a spur of the moment thing and I usually think things out for months before doing it. But TBH didnt have much choice unless I wanted to stay in a cold damp house or move back in with the parents (which one is worse I wonder?!)
Thanks for the support guys. No doubts a few moans will be coming your way ;D

I'm going to have a quick rant. Feel free to look away and come back when I have finished Well, apart from the usual boring tasks of ringing up everyone to change addresses, packaging and arranging removals etc, just the normal stress levels until I came to......the internet!!! I was dreading this the most of everything after the trouble I had setting it up here in the first place and I was right to do so as Tiscali, possibly the world's worst internet company (sue me Tiscali I think I can uphold the claim) have excelled themselves. I got the telephone number of the new house and rang tiscali to see if they could transfer the account across. Yes, they could it would take 14 days but I could do it before I moved in. Great I thought but then they told me they could do this ONLY if I cancelled the phone service I had with them first. So in order to get the internet when I move in I have to do without a phone for the next 2 weeks. Or if I want to keep using my phone I won't be able to use the internet at my new address for the first 2 weeks there!!! What a choice! I think I could manage without the phone and use my mobile but unfortunately there is no mobile reception in my part of the village. So I am stumped! Well after telling the Tiscali bloke this was madness I promptly sent a nasty email to them threatening to leave. But I am at a loss at what to do. I have visions of trying to conduct my business on my laptop at the local pub for a fortnight. Any alternative suggestions would be gratefully received!

Poor Claire, - being the champion at not getting my internet working properly even when I am not moving I am not much help! Two land lines? Different mobile phone provider? ( I have to walk half way across a field here before my BT mobile works, but people with vodaphone have no problem ) Had you considered carrier pigeons??

Hmm thanks kunuma, may be an idea to try vodaphone. If I can get a sim card and pay as you go and bung a tenner on. Knowing my luck Tiscali will then cut off my phone and still take the extra 14 days to set the internet up They really are pants. Have also spent most of the evening trying to send them an email. It seems that it is now offically impossible to email them. The contacts form they tell you to use doesnt work and if you email them direct you get an automated message saying use the contact form. No doubt they cant take the amount of complaints they get any longer. Thanks for the support you guys. I knew I could count on your to listen to my ranting and raving (everyone else has given up). But what the hell am I gonna do on a night with no internet and no TV!!! I will have to get a man!!!

I have explored this option but with moving house it would still take 2-4 weeks for the internet to be installed with the other ISPs I have checked. Also I have still 4-5 months of my contract left and cant really afford to pay two providers. I am certainly leaving them then.

I think the pay as you go phone is a good idea - it's just a shame Tiscali are so pants it makes you wonder who runs the show and how they manage their life? (Prob with a different service provider!!)

I signed a tenancy agreement yesterday. I dont know when I am moving, because it's anything between 2 weeks time and a month! Fortunately I am only moving 5 mins down the road (ten mins walk!).
The only downside is that I have to buy a washing machine, fridge freezer and some carpet (the council had to rip up the old one and apparently it was not worth saving). Plus a new curtain (the living room has 2 windows).

good luck with your move garej, have you got a date yet? Roughly two weeks. The carpets are coming monday, the electrical appliances tuesday so the rest is now just painting the flat and actually moving the stuff. It depends on how long it gets to get everything ready at the new flat, the people who own my flat are a housing charity so they are not bothered about when I move, but I want to get out asap and get stuff like the phone line sorted.

It's almost a pain only moving 5 mins down the road - it will take longer loading your stuff than actually getting it there

The actual pain is trying to find a blooming shower rail to fit the shower. It's one of those disability showers (walk in) rather than a bog standard one. So it's the width of a standard bath. I tried looking online but the only ones I could find are over £100 (which I cant afford).

Could you improvise somehow? Thats a lot of money for a bit of pole! Maybe buy a normal one for the fittings then get a longer pole?

Unfortunately I am not allowed to remove the shower (it was previously occupied by an elderly person) otherwise I would have a bath! I have seen in Argos an extendable pole which I will probably end up buying. The poles that are there have clamps to support it but ideally it does need one that goes all the way around!

Good luck with your move Garej hope it goes well. Well, as you will have guessed everyone am now in new home (well not at the mo am at my dads using the internet) The actual move was pretty smooth after the stress of the couple of days before. Unfortunately a few problems with new house. The blasted sofa bed would not fit up the stairs despite everything the removal men did. So I thought well not to worry could use the room it was going in as the living room and have my study/guest room (where I normally have the sofa bed) in the downstairs living room. But despite the fact my normal sofa is much smaller that wouldnt go up either. (old house very narrow stairs) So I have now got a sofa bed in my kitchen!!! Going to have to try and take one of the sofas to bits to get it upstairs Another problem is the heating. One of the main reasons I moved was to get away from my freezing cold ex-house but what happened as soon as I moved in? You guessed it: the heating conked out! Spent 2 more nights freezing my butt off finally sorted it out this morning. The boiler had switched itself off due to water pressure. Unfortunately as it is a listed house the boiler is in the loft and meant going up there with a ladder and torch! As things go in threes, here is the 3rd thing. No phone til Tuesday from BT but good mobile phone reception so I thought I'd be OK. But that would have been too easy for me. What had to happen was the phone charger conking out so I have 1 bar of battery life to last for the next couple of days Apart from this and the usual problem of not being able to find anything and the things you want being at the bottom pile of at least 6 extremely heavy boxes, it has been easy ;D Got a lovely view of Richmond castle and the hills behind it from my loo The cats are settling in quite well. The must be getting used to moving by now. Am going to have a quick look at everyones posts then I will have to do some work while I have internet access. Not sure when I will be on next so until then adios amigos x

Got a lovely view of Richmond castle and the hills behind it from my loo That sounds nice. I have a nice view of the mountains and open countryside where I am, but where I am moving too all the windows look out to the carpark of the sheltered accommodation block that is next door (I keep on wanting to call it an old people's home). One thing that annoyed me earlier on is that two kids kept on chucking snowballs at the window and it scared me a little, whereas where I am now you don't get that behaviour (you sometimes get people playing because there is a bit of communal ground, but they dont throw snowballs at windows). I hope they are not idiots when it comes to fireworks night.

More madness.... ;D ;D ;D Just got the keys to my new house today. Thought I was mad moving last time but soon to be the 4th time in 18 months!!! Hopefully the last for a while. Anyway was a bit gob smacked by the house when I got in it. It is absolutely filthy as it hasnt been lived in for months. Thick dust everywhere, garden overflowing with weeds. And the carpets are the most hideous things I have seen (look worse now for some reason) and a different pattern in each room! A bit overwhelmed at the moment to say the least! But at least I have almost a month to clean things up a bit before I have to move in.
