Hi all sorry nothing anyone can do about this but need some moral support. My cat Oscar has gone missing. He sneaked out last night as I hadnt closed door properly and when I went to lock up before bed door wide open and he was long gone. I am worried as he didnt come back for his breakfast, also it is on a main road and he doesnt know the area that well as I never let him out front beside road. To make matters worse he is on daily medication which he needs for an illness he has and am worried what happens if he doesnt get it. Luckily it is a close knit village and everyone knows he is missing by now. I know cats can go off for even a few days and come back OK but am still very upset as I am very soft where my animals are concerned. BTW thanks for your kind words exmoorfan x

Like Zoe says they do seem to turn up again some time later. My mums friends cat has recently turned up after about 5/6 weeks (he looks like a skelton I must admit) They searched high and low, had posters etc out and basically gave up all hope then in he walked the other week as if he'd never been gone (bar the condition).
Hopefully Oscar is home by now. I'll tell you a funny (ish) story to take your mind of it for a sec. I use to ride with a lady who lived across the road from us when we lived up North, one day on her way to work she found her cat (or so she thought) dead at the end of the road. She came running over to me upset, then called her husband and made him come home from work for a funeral. She wrapped him up, dug a hole, burried him and went inside and guess who walked in through the door......... (yup she had burried a neighbours cat!) Then they had to dig the poor thing up and go round the neighbours to see who's it was.

Thanks for the moral support guys. Great (if gruesome) story haffyfan Still no news. Have talked to about half the people in the village, put up posters everywhere and printed out flyers to put thru peoples letter boxes if he is still not back 2mrw. We have found every other cat in the neighbourhood but him If he doesnt get his pills soon he could get very ill, thats one of the reasons why I am so worried. Poor Rosie keeps looking around for him too. Just had a blub. My mum is staying with me to keep me company. Trying to stay positive but I am a born worrier. Thanks exmoorfan thats great will visit JJ later to cheer me up. Hope Dominette is feeling better too!

How close is where you used to live - could he have gone back there? Might be worth a drive to see or phoning up someone you know to ask them to keep a look out.

Well if he did go back would be a re-enactment of the incredible journey as it was about 40 miles away!

Oh Claire I am so sorry to hear this, you must be worried sick - but like others said - sometimes they can come back days later, thinner but no wiser. My stray was handed in to the Cats Protection, and they were supposed to have happily rehomed her, several months later she returned here, in a terrible state - but obviously had achieved her objective. And she didn't even come from here= had only been around a week when she was handed over to CPT! Will have fingers crossed for a happy ending -

Thanks for the support everyone. Still no sign of cat. Have rang local vets and CPL but no cats have been run over that they know of. Someone possibly saw him yesterday morning with another cat but it may not have been him. He is very old and I would have thought he would be worn out by now. If he was locked in somewhere I thihk someone would have hear him as he is VERY loud. Keep getting an image in my mind of him lying somewhere hurt feel so useless. House is too quiet without him

Aw Claire thats awful but keep positive! Hes bound to turn up sooner or later. When my dogs ran off we put them up on a website which was very helpful and I recieved supportive messages too from all of them. Obviously that was for dogs but I found this: www.mymoggy.com/www.nationalpetregister.org/dir/lost-cats.htmThe last one has a few links, you never know maybe someone has found him and put him on one of those sites! Thoughts are with you and Rosie xx

Thanks mysteryarab those sites look good I will have a better look at them later and see if I can register Oscar on them.
Possible news today. Have been putting leaflets thru the doors in the village with his pic and on and someone rang up this afternoon to say they are pretty sure they had seen him yesterday at the bottom of their garden. It is not far from my house altho there are quite a lot of fields nearby too. I've been round there again but still no sign. But at least its something postive. He was such a character everyone is shook up. My best friend who was staying with me onthe night he went missing is also really upset and my mum and dad have been driving 40 miles and back every day to help look for him and post leaflets! If we dont find him it is not for lack of trying!

Don't give up hope Claire- years ago our cat went missing for a week but returned none the worse for wear. We think she was locked in a neighbour's shed and though we asked them to look we suspect they didn't because they were adamant the cat wouldn't be there- they were a bit 'odd'. So make sure you push people to look if they are less than co operative. Best of luck at this awful, stressful time.

I have just seen Oscar!!!
Got a phone call early this morn from someone to say he was in their garden. Rushed straight out and there he was with another cat. But he must have decided he didnt want to lose his freedom cos he wouldn't come to me and then ran off. Been looking around the area for a couple of hours since but seems to have disappeared again.
I am so relieved he is still alive and well altho still worried that I wont be able to catch him to give him his pills. I remember when he was younger and used to belong to my gran he would often go off with other cats. Its actually quite funny cos the old man whose garden it was asked me if my cat was a boy or girl. When I told him a boy he said well I'm afraid your cat is homosexual because he has been 'cavorting' with the other cat which is also male! Trust me to have a cat who runs off to have a gay love affair ;D
Well off to have another look for him shortly but don't think he wants to come back yet! Thanks again for everyones kind words they have helped over the last horrible couple of days.

I had a gay dog- the smartest, most loyal and wonderful animal you could imagine (shepherd/lab/dingoX) and as fruity as a skittle.
I'm so glad for you Claire- hope you catch the naughty beggar soon! Give him Wot For from me. Q: Are horses more like cats or dogs? I reckon cats.

HE IS BACK!!!!! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
Finally tracked him down and caught him this afternoon. He is very scrawny but only to be expected with not being on his pills all this time (he has thyroid problem and would waste away to nothing without them). He has been thoroughly washed by Rosie, eaten some grub (most of which he sicked back up) and has now gone to sleep. Will have to get him checkd with the vet to make sure no effects from not having his medication but otherwise he seems OK. Just hope he doesnt think I am letting him out tonight!
I am so relieved. The thing is if we hadnt put the leaflets thru the doors he woudnt have been spotted and would still be searching for him.
Cally yes I have always have thought that cats were a bit like horses, independant, stubborn and not overly endowed with brains ;D
BTW Oscar must be bi cos he likes girl cats too ;D

It took quite a few hours to catch him as he kept running off and then disappearing again. Finally cornered him in a junk pile in the bloke's garden. I just sat there calling him and he suddenly decided that he wanted to come and see me after all. Once he came up it was easy. especially as I had his favourite ham! I have now got to the stage where the relief has been replaced by the urge to strangle the little ***** Have got nothing done all week as its all been spent searching, printing out leaflets, posting them etc. My parents have spent a fortune on petrol drving up to help look for him each day. And because I was worrying about Oscar missing his medication forgot to take mine and I am not feeling very well now. He on the other hand is sleeping the sleep of the righteous!!!

I'm so glad, what a relief. Thank goodness he hadn't decided to try and go back to your old home - he's obviously just missing his social life!! I find the two cats here ten times more worry than twice that many dogs! The dogs do as they are told!!

I am glad that you got him back, just one thing is he microchipped? It is something you may wish to consider for the future.
At least you noticed him missing, we got one earlier on this week which the local council had picked up and the people didnt notice she had gone! Fortunately she still had her collar and tag on, otherwise she would never have been returned.

Oscar is the grey one, Rosis is the little tortie. Yes kunuma i agree dogs are so much easier. Cats are designed to give you grey hairs I think you are right he was missing his freedom/social life. In my old house he used to go wandering off as i wasnt near a main road. Here due to the main road and an unpleasant bloke nearby who doesnt like cats in his garden he only goes out for a few mins each day and is supervised or on a harness and lead. He still gets fresh air but its not the same for him. Doesnt bother rosie much as she is not much of an 'outy' cat and due to not being neutered she has always been on a lead. Oh forgot to mention Oscar's antics have also done me out of a holiday as we were supposed to be booking it up this week and now its too late
