Hi all here is a new quiz for you (since kunuma's promised quiz never came to pass ) How many books can you think of where the titles don't refer to anything horsy - ponies, horses, competitions, riding, etc - in other words if you just saw the title you wouldnt know it was a pony book. For example: The Crumb by Jean Slaughter Doty There are surprisingly quite a few!

All Change Fear Treks The Moor (sounds more like a whodunnit) Treasure On the Moor Mystery On The Moor Suspicion Stalks the moor The Pennyfields The Doping Affair Bandits In The Hills Sundance Saves the Day The Will To Win (Mary May) Deep Water at Dereen (Mary May) A Pocketful of Silver (Mary May) Defiance At the Inn (Mary May)
Pretty much the Three Jays series by Pat Smythe, save for Jacqueline Rides For a Fall. Same goes for her Adventure series - they sound more like something along the lines of Swallows and Amazons.

Haffy isn't going to even try and compete with Susan! I don't think any of Samantha Alexanders books titles are especially horsey or quite a few of K M peytons for that (Darkling, Blind Beauty, poor badger, Fly-By-Night etc) Also Shelly Petersons books esp Stagestruck and Abby Malone, Primrose Cummings Penny and pegasus and the Silver eagles books and the dreaded Heartland and Chestnut Hill mostly have generalised titles. I think a special prize should go to JMB who managed to include the words horse or pony in just about every pony book title she wrote (and even if they are missing it was still obviously a pony book (eg Sabatage at Stableways)

Lol you two Its actually quite interesting to know that the US publisher/authors seem to go out of their way to NOT include anything horsy in the titles whereas ours like to shoehorn the word 'pony' into everything they possibly can. Yes, haffy JMB the worst culprit. The only one without a horsy word is Rustlers in the Forest, even that is a bit dubious tho it could be cattle rustlers I suppose ;D But then again she managed to get the word 'pony' into almost every sentence as well

I have realised that either you lot have fully staffed libraries cross referenced to the nth degree - or you are all really good at making lists! All I can add to the list is Photo Finish Yankee Swap Team Play Hay Fever High Stakes Headstrong B Bryant Bluegrass Borden Deal and there are all the dreadful ones by M oldfield such as Diamond Charm Lady Roseanne Little Vixien I am going to have to come up with a really sneaky one that means you have to have read all the books!
