Well, that got you to look I hope! I know Australia is a big country but I wondered if anywhere still had true wild brumbies? Specifically does the area that was written about in the Silver Brumby books still exist as a place where brumbies live - I know that even in the books she talks of roads being built there. Are they in National Parks like in the USA?

My aussie pal Ree, who helped me start off the website, and who sadly I have now lost touch with, used to tell me horror stories about the brumbies having to be culled, as they are considered a pest by many australians! So yes there are still wild brumbies but they are in danger. Here is a good website dedicated to protecting them: www.brumbywatchaustralia.com/old_index.htmI will be interested to hear what the australian forum members think.

Yes, it's bloody awful the way the state governments 'manage' the brumbies, and I won't go into it here because it's monday morning and I don't want to start the week off sadly. I wrote pleading emails all over the show recently (including to the ILPH and Peta etc) but they weren't helpful- more interested in the Canberra kangaroo cull.
I live about 2-3 hours away from brumby country but I've never come across any in the wild. Some are captured and rehomed- they are very foot sure and used to distractions such as roos jumping around the place so make great trail riding mounts. They're rarely grey and generally under 14hh and I WANT one!
