Haha Susan, yes the TBR pile can definitely be a one step forward, two steps back situation! I did extend the deadline to the end of September as I am hoping us poor freezing Brits will get a late 'Indian Summer' (is that phrase used in the USA too?) The actual Summer has been pretty much a wash-out here this year!

I have completed the challenge! Smiley for Timber by Judith M. Berrisford, which is a bit different to her other books. It was more old-fashioned and had a boy main character instead of the usual girls. Unfortunately I could only award a neutral to Trial Run by Dick Francis. This was not his best book by a long way, but not bad enough for a frownie.

I had a quiet day yesterday, and read The Car and Mrs. Cary, so that’s me finished too! Smiley, please, it was as good as remembered 🙂
Congratulations, Darkhorse on finishing! I was of the same opinion on your last pair…. I really enjoyed Timber, though I understand not everyone does 😉 . I so wanted to love Trial Run (eventing!! Olympics!!!), but it just felt flat 🙁

I wish we could have shipped some summer weather over to you….hottest on record here in New England. And yes, Indian Summer is a term I grew up with, though I haven’t heard it of late. Probably because we don’t have it any more…it’s just 85 degrees right up till the snow starts 🙄

Congrats Darkhorse and Susan for finishing. I'll get your lists updated. I can't remember Trial Run as it's ages since I read it, but probably the fact I can't recall it means it wasn't a favourite.
Thanks for the info on Indian Summer Susan. I do find an endless fascination in comparing Brit and American English/phrases, etc. We often get Indian Summers over here. I used to go on holiday a lot in September in the UK and had some gorgeous weather. There's something about sunny days when the sun is getting lower in the sky that makes them very special.
