Ok, you're probably wondering "why a thread at this point, dressage is done and we're already into eventing"? Because, sitting here watching the eventing dressage, I just found out there is a pony book connection in these games! The commentator mentioned that Boyd Martin, the Australian born US eventer, comes from a sporting family. His mother is the speed skater Toy Martin. Yes, THIS Toy Martin. It is indeed a small world

Thanks for that snippet Susan - very interesting. I will have to add that info to my Toy Martin page. Imteresting too that she also represented both USA and Australia in the Olympics. Pity her books are hard to find.

I really didn't think the Olympics should happen because of Covid, but at least they excluded spectators from most venues. It's also annoying how the BBC lost much of the coverage to Discovery.
Anyway, yes I watched the equestrian events, there's jumping in pentathlon too of course. Yes thanks for that, it's interesting to know about that pony book connection. Are there any pony books that actually feature Olympic riding?

Lorraine Snelling's High Hurdles series are about a girl whose ambition is to ride at the Olympics. Charlotte the Starlet (coincidence on the name lol) by Dave Warner has a heroine who wants to try out for the junior olympic squad of Australia. Gold Medal Mystery by Alison Estes is set at the Olympics. Trial Run by Dick Francis was based around the Moscow Olympics. Also The Blue Mare in the Olympic Trials by Alice O'Connell - but another one that's hard to find. I'll put my thinking cap on and see if I can come up with any more.
