Hi all just to let you know have extended the end date for another week until 21st March which is quite appropriate as it is the old Spring equinox here. This will be the final end date as I'd like to get in our Spring group read before the Summer challenge starts!

Ooo, a spring read?! What is it going to be? Want to make sure I get a copy in time π I'm pondering. Something light hearted/humourous maybe as I think we all need a boost? Any suggestions welcomed.

I remembered that some potential group read titles had been mentioned in the course of the Pony Book Alphabet thread, so I had a quick whip through; in no particular order:
Horsemasters by Don Stanford - if enough people have copies at this point
Connemara Whirlwind by Ann Henning Jocelyn
Riding Shotgun by Rita Mae Brown
(A) Kingdom in a Horse by Maia Wojciechowska
Hmmmm....just checked, this is currently in print in paperback, and available as ebook. Maybe one for a future group read?
Twelve-year-old David Lee is severely disappointed when his father, Earl, a once famous rodeo clown, quits the circuit and moves David to a small town in Vermont to start a new life. Hurt that his father never gave him a real chance in the rodeo arena and having a difficult time adjusting to Βnormalβ life, David withdraws and begins to rebel. Hoping to make things right, Earl tries to buy David a horse in a local auction. But when David pretends to have no interest in it, the horse is sold, instead, to a seventy-year-old woman named Sarah Tierney.
Sarah, grief-stricken after the death of her husband, tries to find solace in owning a horse, but she needs the help of both Earl and David to learn how to care for her new mare, Gypsy. Gypsy brings the three unlikely characters together, helping each of them in their own way, and David, especially, finds peace in their friendship.
Last Summer to Ride by Patricia Leitch Ooo....a thought: have we ever done this one as a group read? It's excellent, and widely available. UK titles were Janet, Young Rider and A Horse for the Holidays.
Lord Mayor's Show by Vian Smith

Thanks for the suggestions susan, I'll check the availability of some of these. I also like the idea of doing Kingdom in a Horse at some point.
I had a look at the top 10 humourous pony books on the old top 10 section and noticed that the top rated humourous book we haven't already covered is Who Sir Me Sir by K. M. Peyton. I'm pretty sure that one will be easy to find and it's a fun read.

Yes, I have Who Sir, Me Sir and it is fun. The Patricia Leitch book is also solid wish fulfillment, and is widely available. The Lord Mayor's Show is one of the more available of his books in the UK, but probably not as easily found/inexpensive, as I don't think it ever had a paperback printing

Smiley for Heavenly Horse from the Outermost West. An unusual fantasy horse story. It is told from horse point of view. Slightly reminds me of Watership Down in that the horses have legends and gods as do the rabbits. One of the main characters is a dog, so a good read for dog lovers too. But not for those who don't do fantasy.
Not finished Mick's Country Cousins. Will try and get it polished off in the next day or two.
Although the challenge is now officially finished, I will keep the thread open a few more days.
I would like to move onto organising the Spring/Easter read. If nobody objects I think we will go with Who Sir Me Sir.

Sorry never read my other two. We have been without internet/landline the last 10 days or so, so i had no access to them as they weren't already downloaded on my kindle. To be honest i doubt i'd have managed both anyhow!
