Aw Garej, the rosettes are a lovely idea. Thanks very much indeed. I didn't win many rosettes in RL so it will be nice to have one. And yes of course it's fine to add more books to make it up to 10.
Ah yes Kunuma, thanks for reminding me that you are doing the Black Stally. I recall it now. Oh to have a good memory!

The rosettes got posted today so they should be here within the next few days.
I have started on The Silver Eagle Riding School. It's ok so far but I haven't got very far. I am hoping that I will like it been as I have the rest of the series!
Not sure what other books to read but I have noticed a mistake (not sure if it's deliberate or not) on the Summer Reading challenge webpage. It says aim 5 books on my section but 6 books are listed (7 by the time you add Flambards) in my section.

Ah yes Kunuma, thanks for reminding me that you are doing the Black Stally. I recall it now. Oh to have a good memory! Yes, I'm ultra efficient!! In fact so efficient am I that I only noticed when I started reading the book that I have just about all the black stallion books (including the ones where the author clearly wasn't taking enough water with it!!)but have two copies of the black stallion returns and none at all of the first book! So I read numbers 2 and 3 last night - and hoped that would remind me enough of the first one - I'm sure I've read it, but then I was also sure that I had it!! I'd forgotten how much the author reminds me of Jack London - adventure stories where men prove their masculinity by defeating and dominating wild animals - good adventure stories but not an iota of knowledge about the real animals and how they behave! I'm afraid I do wonder if the author ever had much to do with horses!! Having just read Son of the Black Stallion, he most certainly isn't someone you would want breaking in your youngsters!! Oh well, now to find the film.

I have decided on Racing Manhattan (Terence Blacker) once I have finished The Silver Eagle Riding School. It's one I started last year as an additional book for the Summer Reading Challenge but didn't finish. Not sure what to add as my final book but atm The Ponies of Bunts is a contender.

Finished Dark Horse, smiley, please! Thanks garaj, for recommending.
I'll figure out my last book this weekend, promise! I was thinking I might actually extend to two more books, since I've finished nine so early in the challenge (famous last words....I'll hit one that totally stumps me and wind up not completing )
BTW, garaj, I read the Silver Eagle trilogy a bit out of order, having found the second book before the first, and when I went back and read them in the correct order later, I was surprised by how much better Silver Eagle Carries On was, compared to Silver Eagle Riding School. Maybe it's the added element of having to make do and, well, "carry on" that made it more interesting. Either way, don't be discouraged from reading the other two if the first didn't catch you

Also finished THE SILVER EAGLE RIDING SCHOOL and would give it a SMILEY. Great riding school story with an unusual twist at the end.
Have started Racing Manhattan. Enjoying it so far.

Ooh the rosettes look fantastic garej!! Thanks again for organising them. Haffy - Sorry to hear you are having probs logging into pooboards. One or two people have had the same problem. I can try having a look into it for you if you PM or email me your password. Alternatively I can set up a new id as haffyfan1 which I did for kunuma using one of my many spare email addresses! Sorry can't update webpage at the mo as away for a few days. I'll get it sorted soon as I'm back.

Yes, I couldn't get back onto pooboards at all when their brilliant update made them so useless, but the new ID that Claire managed to set up for me has worked well. So get back here haffy, you can get a rosette!!
OK have watched Black Stallion film, and read Black Stallion Returns and Son of Black Stallion, plus Legend and Mystery for good measure (bad idea!) Am I supposed to say which I like best or just critique both, I 've forgotten what I'm supposed to be doing!

Haffyfan hopefully you can get here. Even if you only read 3 books I can send out a rosette as I have 10 rosettes (as it worked out cheaper to bulk buy). That's why I haven't put the year as I thought I would keep it either as a spare or for next year.

I have finished my non fiction selection and its a big SMILEY FOR THE EIGHTY DOLLAR CHAMPION heartwarming story of a beautiful 'plough horse' that turns into a top show jumper.
Really enjoyed this one so glad I read it, when I first saw the suggestion to read a non fiction book I was considering skipping it but just goes to show its good to step out of your comfort zone!

I have finished RACING MANHATTAN and would give it a SMILEY. At over 300 pages it's not something you can read quickly.
It's the story of Jay Barton. She initially lives with her uncle as her mother has died of cancer and her father isn't on the scene. Her uncle is corrupt. It starts with pony racing before Jay runs off to Newmarket to start a racing job. She finds one and it deals with the toughness of being a female lad. There's corruption and a bit of nastiness. During which she bonds with Manhattan a difficult mare. It deals with both their racing career. Unusual twist near the end.
Not quite sure what to do for my final book - will let you know Claire when I have decided.

That's right rallycairn. If anyone doesn't feel comfortable sharing their address or for whatever reason doesn't want a rosette then that's fine with me (or is under 16 and can't get permission). It's not compulsory. I won't be offended as I will just keep any spares.

Thanks Claire, Idont' think I dare borrow another book off you until I have got round to posting the three thousand I already have! I took them to the PO and they said I should make little parcels not one big one, but I'm stuck on how little is little? How many books make a little parcel on average - as I don't cook anything I haven't got any scales!!

So if it's not too late i'd like to join in...don't worry about putting me on the web page though claire, and garej, that's terribly kind of you to have had rosettes made up, they look lovely! I have a sort of list but have a few questions, mainly regarding the film club element, does it have to be one of the 2 mentioned? If so i'll sit it out as can't stand the black stallion film and never tried a book as the film was so terrible (only my opinion of course). Can i not do International Velvet or even Flambards, (which i've just found online to watch). RECOMMENDED PONY BOOK FROM THE LIST BELOW CROSS COUNTRY PONY WHO SIR, ME SIR? THE MILKMAN'S COB DARK HORSE Can do any of above but will be a re-read, nothing i've read for years though and bar the KM peyton nothing i've read more than once.* MODERN PONY BOOK Bareback: An Equestrian Romance by Tim Truelan * NON-FICTION PONY BOOK Half a Fault by Audrey E. Taylor * PONY BOOK SET IN A COUNTRY OTHER THAN THE UK, USA OR AUSTRALIA Join Up By Tudor Robins (set in Canada i think or is it just where the author is from?) * AN ANIMAL (NON-EQUINE) STORY ?? Will have to think about this one a bit
Also
Pony Jumpers no 4 by Kate Lattey, as i've been meaning to finish this series for ages but they are on my PC kindle not the e-reader which is under a different email so not so easy to read

Kunuma, I don't know where you are but if you are in the UK you may find a parcel courier is much cheaper for a box of books. I don't sent large things often but I sent a cycle carrier to my god daughter at the other end of the country which was ginormous (seriously the box had mostly disintegrated and I had to cobble several binbags to wrap it) though not heavy and though I ended up sending it with Parcelforce (parcel wing of Royal Mail) because it was time sensitive and I could drop it off near work, I could have saved a lot with a courier company if it had been non urgent and box shaped parcels were cheaper than bike carrier shaped ones. The Royal mail smaller parcel regs are very confusing since they changed them. Size now seems more crucial than weight probably because they do more van deliveries. Anyhow not at all helpful if you are not in UK,

You don't have to do all the categories haffyfan but it has to be one of the two specified books. For example I am not doing the equine non fiction and initially I wasn't doing a foreign book.
Still deciding on my final book. I was going to do Pony in the luggage but I can't find the book.

I'm reluctantly letting go of the idea of reading another hard copy book.....stinkin' elbow seems to have regressed again I'll do They Died in the Spring by Josephine Pullein-Thompson as my 10th book. So happy that it came out as an ebook just at the right time for the challenge and my rotten elbow! And thanks again, garaj, for posting about the kindle editions!

Sorry your elbow is taking so long to heal, susan. How frustrating!
"It's beautiful," Sophie sighed with a note of envy in her voice. "So different from our grandparents' ranch. Dry and Dusty would have been a better name for it than the Lucky Star."
and
"Gran lifted each of their hands and kissed them. 'You will tell her story to your own granddaughters some day,' she told them. 'As long as there are horses like Carmelita and people to tell their stories the life of our ranch will go on.' "
With the first introductions out of the way in the first book, readers get to know more about twins Sophie and Liv and their new life on a southwestern US ranch in
COYOTE CANYON by SHARON SIAMON. SMILEY please!

Hi all, have updated everyone's smilies. Sorry I have been unable to update them as often this year, but have had much less free time unfortunately.
Well done to Kunuma who has won the first golden cup.
Haffy - chuffed you are back in. I'll try and get your list on the web page on the next update.
Well I thoroughly enjoyed my re-read ofd Who Sir Me Sir by K.M.Peyton. The characters are great, especially Nutty and Nails. She's moved away from her usual style to go out and out humour in this one and it is really funny but it does have moments of pathos within the humour such as Nail's becoming attached to a horse because he is lonely and Nutty trying out the false eyelashes and realising she isn't cut out to be attractive.
Not sure which to do next, having a little break to re-read a couple of my favourite Agatha Christies!
