Hi all, I am hoping to run the annual Mastermind competition again this year some time in November, after not having time to do a 2014 competition. If you haven't taken part before it's a just for fun competition in which you test your pony book knowledge. There is one general knowledge round, then a second round on a specialist subject you have picked yourself. (ie. a particular author's books, a series, or a specific book). The winner gets to display the coveted title of Pony Book Mastermind under their forum name. If you would like to take part please can you post here as soon as poss so I can get an idea of numbers, and also can you pick 3 possible specialist subjects (please put in order of preference) and get them to me by end of October. The 3 alternates are in case the quizmaster (little old me) can't find enough information on a particular subject to make up enough questions. However I will try my very best to do your preferred subject.

Hi Claire, yes I would like to take part thid year. I didn't have time to join in with the reading challenge this year due to work commitments and I felt a bit out of the loop So it would be nice to try and do the mastermind, even though I have no chance of winning!

I'll have a go too Claire please.
I'm currently rereading the Anne of Green Gables series (the whole lot!) because I wanted to remember why I didn't like the heroine - I soon remembered!! However it has been an interesting read as I love serials!

I'd like to enter as well, it can't be as hard as winning the under 16 jumping at the local gymkhana Specialist subjects? More books I've read recently and might have a hope of remembering bits from! The Jill books Books by the Pullen Thompson sisters Names of ponies in pony books

Oh goody I'm glad we have some people interested in doing it this year. I know everyone is very busy so I am making it fairly short this time. Just 15 questions on the General Knowledge and 10 on the specialist subject. So hopefully won't be too much revision for anyone who is thinking of taking part. (Less work for me too! )

Oh that's right I'm ment to pick sum more how about Caroline Akrill the eventing trilogy as I have just read it, or mm maybe the Jill books by Ruby Ferguson, my books are all paperbacks I have 456 of the knight photo cover with red Jill ,1239 night with a photo cover and a horseshoe ,7 is a knight framed photo with a rosette on cover, and 8 is a old knight with a painted cover. The mish mash of issues has put me off having them as my pick as may make it hard to set qwestions.

Trixie, your first choice is OK. We've had the topic before (Haffy I think?) but it's not a problem. Jill books is also fine as a specialist subject Julia. Rosie I take it you'd like to choose The Outsider, that's no problem either.
Can anyone who hasn't yet picked their possible 3 specialist subjects in order of preference please post them here in the next week or so if you can. No desperate hurry tho if you can't for any reason as we have the general knowledge first.

Yep its starting to get a problem running out of specialist subjects! If in doubt picking a book you love or have read many times could be the way to go. How about Dark Sunshine Susan? Both of us have recently read it and I know you are pretty familiar with the book. Just a suggestion of the top of my head. Trixie - I'll be thinking up a new set of Pony Club series questions just for you - don't want to make it too easy she says with an evil chuckle.

Seriously can't recall what i've previously done but could i go with any of these if a single book is okay or if a series is easier for you i was planning on rereading the Noel and Henry books while i'm off.
Singles - Janet Must Ride, Jump To The Top, The Black Loch, or A Pony to School?

Out of interest, and i can't recall what normally happens in regards Claire getting to take part, could everyone taking part submit x amount of general knowledge questions and then not answer the ones they submit...this way Claire could also take part and we'd all have the same amount of questions to answer and almost the same set.
I'm pretty sure we have sometimes helped out with questions on other peoples specialist subjects anyhow.

Yes we have helped with questions in the past from what I remember. Don't think I can help too much as I have no pony books anymore but I'll do my best!

Thanks to all who have posted their proposed specialist subjects. No problem with anyone's first choices so far.
Re. my taking part, a couple of times you lot have set up a revenge mastermind for me, with a few people thinking up the questions. So if anyone wants to do that again after the main competition you are welcome.
Re. timescale, I'm thinking general knowledge in a couple of week's time and then specialist subject a week or maybe 2 weeks after.

Hi all, have now put up the questions for the general knowledge round. Officially starts tomorrow but as I'm not an early morning person especially on a Sunday morning stuck em on a few hours early. For those who haven't taken part before the rules are posted there too. There are 2 or 3 easy questions but most are pretty hard, some very hard, but this is on purpose (mainly cos I have a nasty sadistic streak haha) so don't worry if you can't answer many. Round 1 General Knowledge can be accessed here
