Yes the Blind Mans Pocket thing was most unusual. But I think that's the bit I liked best because it is so different! Kept me interested

I need to get Dark Sunshine ordered ... meanwhile I've started the challenge, too, with Hobby Horse Hill. Terry is a bit more of a drip than I remembered but she has finally gotten over her insecurities a bit (and to be fair, that is one of the themes of the book) and some of the more fun adventures are starting.
But egads I had forgotten we have -- not quicksand but essentially the same thing as a bog -- a rescue of one of the kids from a swamp. I guess the fact I never had a pony or horse as a kid kept me from ever falling victim to quicksand/bog/swamp even though I did spend my young years trooping about in the woods with friends, unsupervised by adults. But as I said I managed never to find myself nor any of my companions or our dogs stuck in anything resembling quicksand, bog, or swamp. If we'd had ponies though I bet some bogs would have mysteriously appeared somewhere for at least one of us to get stuck in.

rally...gah!!!! I assumed you had a copy, or I'd have split off one of the ones I sent to Claire rosie...almost forgot to answer re the rattlesnake...I don't think I've hit it in many books, but then I don't read a lot of books set out west, which is where you find them. They are plentiful, and yes, you could very easily find them on the trail, so it's not really very far fetched. (One of the reasons I will NEVER live out west!).

lol Rally re swamps/bogs Susan, I don't like snakes, the worst we have here are Adders but thankfully they are more scared of humans and usually slither away. People do get bitten though but only if they've accidently trodden on one or are handling them. The thought of coming face to face with a rattle snake...Ugh!!

The first of the Georgias is A Pony of Your Own.....haven't read that one, but I did read the second in the series, Ponies and Holidays....most ponyless pony book I've ever tackled....they left the ponies in the field and rode bicycles instead!

Well I finished Hobby Horse Hill and though not quite as good as I remembered, still a very nice story focused on gentle adventures with horses rather than competition, and about finding oneself vis a vis relations with others. Full of clichés, but since it was published originally in 1939, I think I'll give Davis a pass on this one as she was probably one of the progenitors of the clichés -- swamps and a dyed horse, though not exactly passed off as a ringer, more of a straight swindle.
SMILEY for HOBBY HORSE HILL by Lavinia Davis.

LOL.....well, maybe she used all her good ideas on the first book, so it'll be ok? Here's hoping anyway!
I've read Steep Farm Stables by Mona Sandler, smiley please. A very short, quick read, a bit more disjointed than I remember The Young Horse Dealers being, but a fun totally undemanding read, which is just what I was in the mood for! The illustrations by Sheila Rose were among her very best too, which never hurts!

A SMILEY for DARK SUNSHINE, really enjoyed this book, am now hoping to track down some more by the author, but they seem to be hard to come by and very expensive, or at least the postage from the US is outrageous!

Hi all, I'm behind with my list and updating the web page lol. Its being a very busy summer for me and I'm living sort of between two houses at the moment which doesn't help as I keep leaving the books in the wrong place! But I will update evrything/rectify errors and add smileys tomorrow. Just to add my comments to some of the books you lot have been reading: Steep Farm Stables - I actually liked this one better than the first in the series. (I didnt like the character of Moyra much in book 1 but she improved a bit in book 2.) But I didnt like the class divide thing, with Effie IMHO, being looked down upon by the 2 more priviliged girls. Be interested to know if Susan and Rosie share this view...? Georgie books - I actually quite like them but I know I am in a huge minority! I think they are fairly innocuous. This will defo put the lid on it for haffy as we rarely like the same books!

As per usual I can't remember a thing about the books but know I did enjoy them. I'm not really bothered by the class divide issue though. I may not agree with it but interesting to read how people were back then, sort of a history lesson in pony books.

If anyone else can't do bold just put them in capitals. I like that book too Garej. One of my favurites of the authors. I have just updated the page with everyone's smilies. (See link below) Pleased to say no frownies yet. Well done to Tintin who is the first to win a rosette for finishing 3 books SUMMER READING CHALLENGE 2015 WEB PAGE

Can I have a SMILEY FACE for PONY FOREST ADVENTURE. It seems to be missing it's author on the Web page though - it's by Judith Berrisford.
It was it's usual Berrisford fare and had gypsies in it. But they were mainly good. No bogs but plenty of pony rustlers.
But I tend to enjoy Berrisford's work hence why I gave it a smiley.

SMILEY for BLUE RIBBON SUMMER by Patsey Gray.
I feel like I just spent a week on the A Circuit in southern California -- though it was a bit quieter than it has been lately because it was circa 1968! But there was still plenty going on, both in the ring and behind the scenes, lots of great camaraderie with friends and other respected pros, but hints of the shady goings-on by some exhibitors, cross-discipline snobbery, protecting one's amateur status -- and the governing body was still the good ol' AHSA rather than the USEF.

I have just noticed that 4 of us are doing JPT. She's the most prolific of the authors on the list. Ironically enough both Susan and I have gone for the same series. Nobody has chosen the same JPT book.

Smiley face for four of mine, I'm sort of dithering about the Dark Sunshine one but to be fair it's gone walk about and I hadn't finished it. Madly looking for four more free ones so I can do ten! Getting up three times a night to let HRH go wee means I'm not reading at nights!! Unheard of!!
PS A challenge for you lot, find me some books starring a labrador please - PS going to do a reread of The Incredible Journey but not sure I can count it for the challenge as it's about my tenth reread!!

Have you read the books by Shelia Hocken(sp) about her guide dog Emma? There is also a children's book called Emma's story, which i loved as a child, told from the puppy, Emma's, perspective about her life with the puppy walker through to meeting Sheila.
