In the face of our rapidly decreasing wildlife I get very excited nowadays to see anything slightly unusual, this morning I saw a beautiful adder. These were really common when I was young, they were all over the garden, but I haven't see one for years and years. This one obviously heard (felt) us coming and froze where it was, I'm amazed I saw it as my eyesight is useless, but luckily I did, put the dogs to heel and we all walked round it, it was so still I had to stop and watch the tongue to check it was actually alive. So we both minded our own business and went on about our lives, but it made my day!
Much less impressed in the same area where newborn lambs are everywhere to see someone let a totally out of control pack of at least ten dogs out to run wild. Even if they couldn't care less about the farmers, how can they be so uncaring of the sheep. I soooooo prefer snakes to humans!!

Wow that was a lucky find kunuma, they are rare now! I've never seen one and I dont think you get them in my area at all. I also like snakes. I find it strange that most people dislike them and call them slimy and creepy when there's a lot more slimy creepy humans about. They are fascinating creatures and are certainly not slimy, they have a very nice texture to them. Another animal I like which a lot of people don't are bats. I love watching them swooping around on an evening.
What wildlife do other folk like watching?

There were bats outside my grandparents' house many years ago. That was the area where I met an adder on a hill walk with parents, don't think I ever saw one again. There is some urban wildlife here. Mainly winter foxes are the most common (once saw a dead, run-over one), owls may also be heard at night. Frogs are there though rarely seen, I once saw one on the pavement outside a house in heavy rain. Voles or something probably exist along the river towpath, but only remember seeing one once years ago.
