Well, I know it's not a film, or a TV show, but I couldn't find a board for this....! Anyway, last night I went to see the stage production of WAR HORSE last night.... And it was BRILLIANT. And I do mean brilliant. Everything you hear about this is absolutely true. It's got fantastic performances from the human stars, realism (all too real sometimes), heart-wrenching emotion (yes, I cried!), and of course Joey and Topthorn. Of course, when you see them in the flesh (can you really call it that?) you're immediate reaction is "It's not real", but I swear within about five minutes you utterly believe that Joey really is alive in front of you, and that the guy at his head is only there to stop him from charging off into the audience! If you get the chance to see this, go for it. You might have been disappointed in the film (I wasn't) but you won't be disappointed in this!

Totally agree with you Daren, it is fabulous and I can't recommend it highly enough. I was blubbing within the first five minutes!

I've heard nothing but good things about the show and how it is much better than the film. I'd love to see it but sadly not many big theatres up here so I doubt it would appear. Oh well maybe on my next trip to London...

I missed going last year through being ill, regreat it slightly but didn't fancy being stuck in the hell hole all weekend whilst feeling crap. If me and Oh had been going it would have been in/out, maybe an overnight stay but out again first thing! Sadly my friends don't share my views and wanted to make a full weekend of it hence my dropping out.

A few things amazed me about the stage show:
1) There are no sets. There's minimal decoration with which to set the scene. In an early part of the story, Joey is being auctioned off. He's standing in a "pen", which is merely a few blokes holding up bits of a fence. After a couple of seconds, though, the illusion is that there IS a pen around him, and the guys are just leaning on it!
2) Joey comes into the audience. I hadn't expected that at all. The full-sized horse gets led off the stage by the actors, and comes up the aisle between the seats. Anyone lucky enough to have a seat there would have been within inches of him - which is all kinds of cool!
3) The actors are practically in amongst the audience. At the end, where the opposing troops are watching Joey in no-man's land, the actors are hiding down at the front of the stage, in front of the audience, looking over the top with periscopes. It kind of makes you feel part of the show, especially if you're sitting in the first few rows (like I was!) - very, very clever, and simply brilliant.
4) The theatre. I've seen a few shows on stage (most notably Cats), and I have NEVER seen a full theatre, nor have I ever seen a standing ovation for anything.

I went to the live transmission last week, in a lccal cinema. It obviously wasn't as good as seeing the real thing, that must be an experience. I didn't think much of the acting or the script but the puppets and the art direction were superb. The cinema was heaving, no seats left; I have never experienced it in a cinema ever before!
