Just saw the end of the Puissance, what a wonderful, wonderful Italian rider who won it. Interviewed after the first round , he didn't want to go again, was prepared to walk away, because he felt his mare had tried so hard and he didn't want to ask more of her.
A showjumper who puts his horses first - that made my Christmas.
He was persuaded very strongly to go again, and won, and do you know what, that mare was wearing a D ring snaffle, no god awful severe bits with strapped down nose, no martingale and he talked about her after the win and said he loved her, and more important, he felt she loved him! What a guy, almost restored my faith in 'horsy folk'!

Yep agree with you both after watching his comments. What a lovely mare too, very odd style of jumping but boy did it work!

Cally not sure but you may be able to watch the catch up on bbc iplayer if you go in through a proxy server and use a British IP address (depending on how computer savvy you are you may not know what I am talking about lol!)
Haven't had a chance to watch it on iplayer yet as been mega busy the last few days, a lot happening at once.

It's 7am and I just watched the 1.6m Grand Prix and some of the riders just made me CROSS! There's enough research and information around for riders to learn what NOT to do and one of them is SLAP your horse! It's mainly male riders and male grooms and after a good round they give the horse a few hard whacks on the neck- to the HORSE that is uncomfortable and a form of negative reinforcement- punishment. Women riders and grooms are much more likely to pat their horses more gently and, interestingly, female grooms usually have a food treat for the horse. I'd love to research gender and horse sport...
Wanted to give Ireland's Cian O'Connor a slap myself-as well as slapping his horse in a 'macho' well done mate way TOO too hard, he rides with his hands high, elbows out and saws at the mouth to slow the horse down. And he's a tubster. Poor bloody horse. Ben Maher, and Penelope Leprevost especially, were far better riders and didn't it show in the standings!
Speed stakes now- with lots of ads- and then the Puissance which will be edited down to show just the 1st and 2nd placed riders. Glad really- as usual, 2 days before Xmas and I'm getting a sinus infection. Should go and get Phil another present but I think I'll be going back to bed after this!

I'd love to research gender and horse sport... Yes that would be an interesting subject to explore. I did my dissertation for my psychology degree on a gender related topic and its always been something that fascinates me. Hope your infection clears up soon. I usually get a cold just before Christmas, but at least I got it out of the way a few days ago this year.

Watched the Puissance- it was interesting that the chap whose horse won has studied ethology and I think he was the only one whose horse didn't have it's head strapped down by a martingale, and rode in a snaffle! It did have a very odd jumping style- it dipped it's head down as soon as it's front legs were over the wall- haven't seen that before. AND he physically rewarded his horse the correct way and was funny as well! And the mare was so calm until just at the end when there were lots of people rushing around carrying strange things. Shame about Ben Maher!

Cally i don't know whether this has made it to you but i think maher may have other things on his mind at the moment although his Grand prix win was very stylish. www.chronofhorse.com/article/ben-maher-responds-phillips-lawsuit he's a lovely classical rider compared to a lot of showjumpers but i don't like the way he seems to like teaming hackamores and bits together on a lot of his mounts. British equestrian sports may be back in the high profile Tv wise after the Olympics but with this scandal added to the ones currently taking place in Endurance and Eventing you've got to wonder how long before the bubble bursts sadly. Lasts night coverage of Olympia on the red button was excellent! We got the grand prix at tea time and then an hour later the rest of the evening schedule, dogs, sh1tland grand national and all...harks back to the days when it was on TV every evening during the show...why did keith Chegwin present it back then btw, does anyone know?

Bugger forgot about the red button bit last night could have watched it round a friends if I'd remembered! I too am very impressed with the Italian rider who won the Puissance. As others have said lovely to see a horse in a snaffle! His horse may have had a strange jumping style but his style was superb, made some of the other riders look like sacks of potatoes. Keith Chegwin! Haha forgot about him! Annoying presenters seem to be a must for Olympia!

Ah yes those were the days...David Broome, Harvey Smith, Marion Mould etc. etc. No idea about Keith Chegwin though. However irritating he was I'd rather him than Claire flippin Baldwin!

Could i do the same to watch American Tv programmes online? If so yes please for the instructions! You can with some sites, but a lot have now found some way of blocking it, so its a bit of a trial and error. I used to go on Hulu all the time with Hotspot shield and get all the American dramas but then they put a spoke in the wheel! (Hulu does work with CyberGhost - see below) Anyway if anyone wants to give it a try, first of all you need to download and install a VPN (virtual private network). I used to have Hotspot Shield but recently changed to CyberGhost as I was having a few probs with Hotspot (altho it had worked fine for over 2 years) CyberGhost may be the best to try for this as you can manually pick the country. Here is a link to where you can install it: download.cnet.com/CyberGhost-VPN/3000-2144_4-75145993.htmlOnce you have installed it, open it up and you get a console appearing. On the left side there is a bit that says 'simulated country' with a drop down menu, select the country you want and then click on the big button in the centre of the console. It will then connect you to an IP address of the country you have selected. (EG if you are outside the UK and want to try and watch BBCiplayer select UK) It does take a while to connect and you may find browsing a lot slower. Once you are connected, your own IP address is also safe from hackers and the like. You can then try opening the site of whichever TV service you want to watch and see if the video content loads. To disconnect press the same button you connected with. If you dont like CyberGhost, if it doesn't work for the site you have chosen, or you have any problems with it there are some other free VPNs here: www.makeuseof.com/tag/5-great-free-vpn-services-compared-which-is-fastest/Or if you pay a subscription there are more sophisticated and faster VPNs you can use. If anyone tries this let me know how you get on.
