I'm absolutely manic about models having to look realistic, and if they represent a breed, having the right conformation, colour etc, I have to say that one of the best makes from that aspect were the older Beswick china models. Plus the early Britains models from the 60's and 70's, and the Cherilea and Timpo ones.I've also got some gorgeous zoo and farm animals - the cats are adorable yet so tiny.

I used to collect them, they were beautiful models. I am now kicking myself as I gave them all away when I first left home. What an absolute idiot I was!!!!!!!

I didn't think myn had so much white on it, but may be as a long time ago. They seemed to have changed the horses and riders later on. The earlier 'Happytime' was bay with no white marks. Thats the one I had, maybe you too Trixie: Later on it seems they gave the horse a lot of white markings and they also changed Anna's hair from brown to blonde (mine had brown hair).

As well as doing two custom-painted Shires, I'm going to do a special one-off of a Clydesdale stallion as a present for a friend.
Sadly, she had to have her much-beloved stallion Buddy put to sleep yesterday afternoon. You've probably seen me mention him on here before, but if not I'll post a couple of photos of him.

Oh dear your poor friend Daren. But what a lovely present for her. I'm sure she'll treasure it.

Meant to mention that I got the latest Utterly Horses catalogue in the post yesterday. Having a look through it earlier, and...
OH. MY. GOD.
Horse feed? HORSE FEED?! For TOY horses?!
I obviously get the idea behind riders, tack, stables, etc, etc. But, seriously, miniatures of carrots, apples, even bags of feed?!
I really think, though, that I'm in the wrong line of work. I like models. I like building models. I like horses. I like collecting model horses. I like painting model horses. There seems to be money to be made out of these things...!

Two bay Clydesdale stallions dropped onto the doormat yesterday - one for painting, one for the collection!

I picked that up at the Highland Show this year. It's an original - the artist was selling it on her stand (and, shock horror! I have her as a friend on Facebook!). I told her that if I still had enough money by the time I was about to leave, I would come back and buy it!

I had a few old china (Beswick I think) horses as a child. Sadly they got broken, only an odd dark green china one remains.

I got a magazine from our paper shop where I can sew felt dogs I think I may be brave and try doing my own try at a felt horse or pony.

That would be cool Trixie. With your artistic talent I'm sure you could create something fantastic. I have knitted ponies in the past. I don't have any left to show folks though. I love the idea of creating horses (or other animals) form all sorts of different materials. If you do make any we'd love to see them on here! Maybe a separate section for horse art/crafts would be a good idea...?
