Hi folks just to let you know I will be away for a week come Saturday. Going to the Lake District again to do a bit of walking. I'll try and pop in a couple of times to check things out (of course not going away without my netbook!) but the forum will have a limited moderation for that week. My dad is on cat sitting duties! Hopefully he may even do some DIY jobs around the house for me while he's there hehe.

Have a great holiday, Claire. The Lake District is lovely; I got to Windermere once way back in 1987.

Can we delete posts now? I can't figure it out if we can. Anyway, ended up with a double post and couldn't get rid of it. Sorry. Just had a practise and you can Rally but they've hidden the option in a drop down menu. After you've posted, click the little black arrow on the far right hand side above your post and there are options in there which includes delete.

Would you be interested in reading some of my horse stories and poems? I've had quite a few published in magazines

Sure, that sounds great catpony!
I can't even begin to imagine doing something like that. How did you start off? Just sending unsolicited manuscripts hoping for an acceptance? And did you take format writing classes or just pick it up on your own?

Hi all, well back safe and sound. Weather has been a bit of a mixed bag, couple of lovely hot days but all in all probably the worst I've had in the last 5 years of going to the Lake District, which is a bit ironic considering it has been the best summer we've had for years in the UK! Managed to climb another one of the smaller mountains featured on the Julia Bradbury Wainwright TV show (the longer established forum members may recall I climbed Cat Bells from the TV show a few years back) this time I did Castle Crag which is actually the smallest 'mountain' featured in Wainwright's books! Got lots of pic which I will show you (or should that be bore you with) when I have time to sort them out!
Catpony will send you a PM re. stories.

Well done climbing the mountain! Shame the weather wasn't so good though.
Looking forward to the photos!

Well the weather wasn't bad enough to stop us enjoying ourselves. Only one really dreadful day. I have been extremely lucky in past years with the weather there considering it can be very cloudy and wet so I suppose its just things evening themselves out!

Sounds like an amazing time, notwithstanding the weather. Is this a family vacation, or do you go with friends?

Hi Rally, well sometimes I go with my friend, sometimes with my mum, the last few years with my mum due to my friend having family commitments. This year it was me and my mum again. She's a pretty good walker for her age so we get about quite a bit. Anyway for anyone who is interested I have posted the pics on facebook. Click on each picture in the album to see a bigger pic and also where it was taken. Stupidly, facebook now does not seem to allow non facebook members to view albums like it used to do (unless anyone knows differently) so will have to go download them all separately here for non FB folk. For those who are on FB here is the link to my album or just go to my page: www.facebook.com/claire.noble.16/media_set?set=a.10201407176655167.1073741825.1647143015&type=1

Just had a look from OH FB account. I still don't do FB!
Stunning pics Claire. Is that a stone circle in those first pics? Well done your mum!

Yes Rosie its a 4000 year old stone circle. I did add comments to the pics to say where they were taken but they don't show up unless you click on the photos (the comments used to come on below the pics on the old facebook - another example of an upgrade which is worse!)
I'll try and sort out some pics for here too for the non facebook folk. Its annoying that they don't show up to everyone any more I guess FB is trying to make everyone join.

Ooops didn't notice the comments. I'm useless at FB! I don't think many people do notice them now. They used to come up below the pic so it was very clear. FB got mucked up a lot when they updated to this timeline thing - sounds familiar....?!

Good pics - all those islands in the lake - are any of them the famous one?? Like the one of you gazing out over your kingdom! Some of those Castle Crag slopes look a bit steep! I'm not good with heights! lol

I dont think any of the islands are particularly famous - unless you are thinking of the Swallows & Amazons island which is actually on Coniston. Here is some info about Derwent water's islands tho: www.nationaltrust.org.uk/wra-1356299840097/view-page/item400001/Yes when I was looking down from Castle crag I thought this is not for someone with a fear of heights!!! Rosie - I like that pic too. That was taken on one of the 2 sunny days we had so the pics that day came out better. (The other sunny day I didnt have the camera with me!) My camera doesnt cope well with low levels of light so the other pics weren't of great quality. Still gives you some idea of the beauty of the area.
