I didn't know it existed either until I was an adult and starting to re-read pony books again. I didn't see it anywhere as a child. It wasn't in the library unlike most of the other PT books. Almost as if the publishers weren't eager to distribute it? I also think a lot of the themes in the book may have gone over kids' heads so, along with the lower than average pony content, it never became a favourite with children who did read it.

I do think that neither the title nor the cover illustrations do it any favours - it almost sounds as though it might be a historical story rather than a pony story - funny how some of the books that got retitled didn't need it whereas I think this one could perhaps have done better with a diff title = what can anyone suggest? Something like Pony in the Paddock ( simpler the better seems to help with pony books)or perhaps Yhe Reluctant Showjumper? I ofter wondered if that was why Monica Edwards books got so rare, they had very clever - but totally over the head for many children) titles = which didn't mention the word pony. Those that did, such as wish for a pony = seem to be many, many copies of those available (I've got about ten!!)

I actually quite like the title but as you say Kunuma its not a great one for the market it is aimed for. Pony in the Paddock would be a much better one for marketing purposes.
Re. the Monica Edwards books, she apparently didn't want to be classed as a 'pony book author' and didnt really want most of the books to be thought of as pony books hence the titles being more generalized. I know some are hard to get hold of but a lot of them had a huge number of different editions and printings (check out the Monica Edwards website to see them all) so she must have been doing something right! Anyway getting off topic somewhat. If anyone still has to comment please don't forget to do so as we will be starting the next reading circle book soon. (Tho of course anyone is welcome to add to this thread whenever they want - even a year or more later as has been known!)
