Something makes me want to say it's about arabs, but it doesn't have a wrapper so maybe i dreamed that up. I'm going to try it next i think, happy to lend it you after, and i think if it is indeed about arabs someone else may want a turn if she hasn't read it previously

No wrapper so not sure it's worth a photo but found a very reasonably priced copy of The Bucking Chestnut on ebay a few days ago. It's arrived in great condition...hope it's not another hugely anticipated flop!

congratulations, Claire, on both book and birthday!
Its a while since I read it, but I remember really liking it...mine has the US cover art, which is ok, but the Biegel cover you've got there is gorgeous.

Thanks Susan, yes it's a cracking dustwrapper and the internal illustrations are lovely too. I haven't read it before so I'm really looking forward to it. The other book is Trekker's Trail by Carol Vaughan which finishes the Matilda trilogy. Not as good as the other two, but an OK read. Sadly no wrapper on that one. Haffy I just realised I hadn't replied to your earlier post. Yes, thank you I would love to borrow The Earth Sings some time. Christmas has come early for me - I'm off to Leeds tomorrow to pick up a HUGE job lot of pony and other children's books. It's really for my bookshop but I think the odd book may find it's way into my own collection.

Thanks Susan and Haffy. Can't post pics of all the books as too many! I'll take some pics tho, especially the ones I haven't read or seen before. They are from a very lovely horsy person selling off a lot of their book collection, I've promised to find homes for them all and not throw any away that I can't sell. So there may possibly be quite a few pony books (mainly paperbacks) that I'd be happy to send out to people who are looking to fill holes in their collections. Watch this space, as they say!

Just got a copy of The Unwilling Adventurers by Veronica Westlake from ebay....sadly, no dj, so nothing to post pics of, but the book itself is in very good shape, and was so cheap.
A quick look on abebooks shows other copies are out there pretty cheaply right now, if anyone has been looking.

I got 'The Unwilling Adventurers' last year, though I have no idea where from. It does have a dj, but it's rather tatty, but colourful.

I bought this book because it had a CPT story in it. Only realising afterwards that I already had the story. The story contained is A New Beginning. I suspect that I have all the PT short stories contained in annuals. Anyway another for the website when you have the time Claire.

Haven't posted here for a while as no pony books in Spain! Back in UK and back on the pony book hunt! Got these 3 recently. Interestingly they are all non-UK. All in really good condition too.

Wow, that's unusual! All from the same shop? I find that when I find UK editions of books, it's often in little lots like that. I always wonder what the backstory is...ex pat? Or maybe a fond grandparent sending for birthdays or Christmas?

I got them from different places but it's unusual that I find 3 non-UK pony books in a row.
Yes when I find collections I ponder on the back story too. I was once lucky enough to buy what looked like someone's entire (or at least a good part of it) collection on a donation only charity stand in a shop over here. (Her name was in them all) While it was a bonanza I did muse upon why the person got rid of them all.

I think the biggest collection of books I ever bought was from the estate of a single collector. My favorite US horse book dealer (now largely out of the trade) emailed me to say one of her largest customers had passed away, and that the heirs just didn't want to bother selling anything individually (even to her!). They did job lots on an auction site (not ebay, one I'd never heard of and never used before or since). I think I bought five lots....three for $2.50 USD, two for a bit higher....I think the most expensive lot was $7 and change. The shipping was vastly more expensive, but it all came in at $70 or so.
In the lot? First editions of all the crazy hard to find H.M. Peels, Paul Brown illustrated books, etc., etc. I've never got so much for so little. Sad that the kids had no appreciation for their mom's collection, but I was happy to give the books I got a new home!

I think the owner of the books would have been pleased that at least the books were bought by someone who would appreciate them. On a slightly similar note I still feel very sad that a dear friend (and fellow bookaholic) of mine passed away, wanted to leave their collection to me but didn't write a will. Even though they told their children that they wanted me to have the books, the kids took no notice of their parent's wishes and sold the lot. Sadly I was out of the country and didn't even have a chance to buy them myself so ended up with nothing to remember my friend by. It still hurts a lot.

I was on holiday in Northumbria recently, so went to Barter Books in Alnwick, of course. Not a great source of pony books, but I did manage to find four I wanted.
Fireworks at Farthingale - with a slightly tatty dj. When I got home I found I do already have it, but no dj. Tally - Ho (Moyra Charlton) also with slightly worn dj, but not bad considering its age. Kingdom For A Horse - Dorian Williams paperback I've not seen before. The Horse Masters - hardback with dj, so an upgrade from my paperback copy.

I received today an first edition of We Hunted Hounds by CPT. Although I have read it before my copy was the J Allen edition which had been updated. I have an early reprint of I Carried The Horn and a first edition of Goodbye to Hounds so it was nice to have the full set. I doubt that it will ever get reprinted as hunting is not considered PC these days hence why I splashed out on a first edition.

Also received recently was a early edition of Riders from Afar by CPT. Again another one I own already but mine was the Collins Pony Library one. Now I have the illustrations. Unlike We Hunted Hounds I havent read this one before.

I've just found a copy of Three Day Adventure by Elinore Havers in a second hand bookshop. I haven't seen this particular book by her before. Has anyone read it? I've taken a picture of it on my phone but for some reason the forum attachment thing isn't working so I can't show it. It's harback with no dustjacket and has nice illustrations.

I do have this book. I think it's one that I started to read but foudna bit dull. It was written a lot earlier than her other pony books. I've got a pic of it somewhere will add soon as I find it.

Lovely haul, Claire!!! Most of my recent acquisitions have been non-pony, but oddly, one Hilda Boden title among them....Mystery of Castle Croome, which I'd been looking for in hardcover for a while, came my way cheaply
